high revs with no power, cleaned intake manifold with no fix

Postby PixelPaul on Wed Apr 21, 2021 5:46 pm

Hello all,
I have a 3.2 2009 Diesel Triton.
So i have been having the problem of the revs suddenly going up high but with no power being delivered. It generally happens when i am in 3rd and just about to go into 4th. I also happens more when i am towing something.
Maybe the high revs is the turbo coming in?
I though it might be the whole intake manifold that might need cleaning again, but after pulling that all apart, its okay, and now even cleaner :-).
No error codes are coming up, and i have cleaned the MAF.
I do have a "bypass chip?" to stop the EGR and carbon buildup, and also a "heavy duty" SCV.
Anyone have any ideas on what i can do in a process of elimination? starting from easiest and less expensive :-)

For the revs to rise and nothing happens in term of power or speed, especially under load, sounds like your clutch is slipping like a bitch, ;)

nooo, that was one thing i was thinking, which would be an expensive job.
Can anyone recommend a good clutch to get? that is not $700. I am on a very tight budget, but dont want to go the cheapest and skimp on quality. So maybe something decent that should last and at a good price?

X2 clutch.

Mine first manifested with the addition of a chip.

Returned to standard and problem largely disappeared.

Over several months I was finding occasion slipping, getting worse. Eventually dropping out of cruise control.

Final straw, could only get up the hill going home in third gear. Suppose 270k not bad value.
Don't let the b'strds get you down!!
