Larger tyre in spare tyre holder mq triton

Postby mq3175 on Sat Feb 16, 2019 3:40 pm

Hi guys I have fitted 265/65/17 bf Goodrich K02 tyres on my MQ. I want to get a spare the same size. Will this fit in the spare tyre holder under the tray and will this tyre fit on the factory gls alloy wheel. Had a look around the forum but couldn't find the answer. Thanks.

Yes it will fit...just. Have 265/75 r16 with dia of 813mm and your 265/65 r17 will be a bit smaller than that.
It will clear the exhaust and the left hand spring hanger, but needs to be shuffled towards the back of the car as u wind it up against the chassis so it clears the diff cover on suspension compression.

Last set of tyres i had 285/75 r16...that also fit...just...very tight and just kissed the exhaust and needed a fair bit more rearward pulling to clear the diff cover.

As to stock rim not sure...mine are all on roh alloys.

Considering 265/75R16 for my MQ. Good to know the 285s will fit too. Why did you go back to 265s?

No real good reason i suppose...combination of speedo slightly under reading at 100ks, was actually doing 104 by gps, little bit sluggish on take off, aforementioned spare clearance and was doing a madigan line crossing and didn't want issues with spare moving or breaking something. 285's also need the front mudflaps tweaked to stop rubbing..i had already made some brackets to relocate them back a bit with aftermarket tjm flaps.

I have a karmann diff drop and it currently looks a little under tyred compared to 285's, but still ok.

Just at roma after doing madigan west to east locked in 4h..broke a rear wheel speed sensor at mt dare, and cant activate any transfer mode except what it was in when the sensor broke, 265's defintely helped in the dune crossings in 4h.

Dropped rear tailshaft at windorah and doing the run home in front wheel drive.
