Shortened bump stop

Shortened bump stop

Postby Adictv on Mon Apr 09, 2018 4:38 pm

Iv got a toughdog lift and found i was hitting the upper bump stop. I just put in the shortened bump stops and tested the droop off my front retaining wall lol and can see the upper control arm has scratch off the toughdog sticker on the shock casing. I cant check how bad its hitting until tomorrow but just checking if anyone has had the same problem if so have you found a solution without upgrading the control arms.

Hitting the bump stop with Tough Dog? What coils do you have?

As for the control arm hitting the casing - yes, been reported before.

Have a read through this search.

I think foam cell front and setup for bullbar but yet to fit. I do understand this will contribute a little but didnt thjnk it would be an issue and 500kg constant load in rear.
Front went from 785mm to 800mm
Rear went from 790mm to 880mm.
Thanks ill have a look at the link now

If you are going to put a bullbar on then I would say that extra sag from that will allow you to put the factory bump stops back in. I trimmed my original bumpstops down just enough to allow the most droop without the control arms hitting the struts.

I got the same done as aids84, got the factory bump stops trimmed down to allow travel. My front end sits around 600mm hub to guard.

Do you always carry a heavy load? 500kg constant in the rear will make for a fairly hard ride if not.

Those measurements cannot be correct.

Factory standard on an MQ GLX is 545mm front and 600mm rear.

If the differences, before and after are correct then you've only picked up 15mm in the front, which sounds more like the normal Tough Dog lift which is around 1". That's why I asked you what coils you have. With a 15mm increase you should have no issues with hitting the bump stop. So, something wrong with your measurements or they're different coils.

Thanks for the replys. After driving a good 400km today a have checked and no more scratching but on level ground you can only just fit the tip of your finger between the two im just worried when i go off road it will cause damage.
5th yes i have 350kg in the back without my tools everyday for work. Tub, canopy, drawers, fridge, battery, solar panel on canopy plus tools. Last time i checked i was at 2.86t so pushing the friendship.
I think your right about the heights but thats what my mechanic gave me once installed im starting to think it was 685 not 785 to start with..... maybe i donno.
I might have to trim the old stops and chuck them back in until i get a bar fitted

Best to measure from centre of wheel to guard, that way it doesn't matter what size wheels you are running. About 580-600mm would be the most you could run reliably without a diff drop
