Noticed my exceed.steering wheel starting to peel in a small area. Anyone else had any problems?

Hey there Sandstorm76.
My ML wheel has peeled a bit particularly at the top. Guess it has something to do with the sunlight and heat over time.
Have used leather cleaner/protection so maybe it could have been worse.
Over the years I have had several leather steering wheels in different vehicles , especially MOMO's (ouch) peel and crack.
cheers
Graham
be excellent to everyone...

I will request a warranty replacement then likely use a cover if they're prone to it

Yep

Mine has peeled 20000kms on the clock, from 10 til 2 on the wheel.

The dealer has mentioned it happens a lot.

Waiting on a replacement as we speak!

I'm very surprised as my truck is less than a year old. I think once I get the replacement I will buy a steering wheel cover to protect it.

Its a kit available from ebay. Mentioned in the forum somewhere. The cover comes with some poly thread and you sew it on the inside of the wheel. Takes about 50mins to fit

Yeah I bought a $7 synthetic one off ebay. No complaints, feels nice enough. A bit painstaking to put on and doesn't look as nice as a factory fit, but I'll just hoik it if it ever wears out.

I went into the dealer today as mine after 10000km was peeling in the 11.00am to 2.00pm spot. They replaced it with a new one that looks different to the old. My model was the MQ GLS.

Seen a few of these popping up now, MQ leather wheel in GLS/Exceed does seem to have a few wear issues. Mitsubishi seem to be on it which is great for those effected.

Just took ownership of my GLS and noticed the actual leather on the top of the steering wheel is very rough, like it's disintegrating from the sun??

Warranty??

In answer to anyone who has issues with a leather steering wheel on the MQ. Early models had steering wheels which are prone to losing their surface. It's a known issue and MMA will replace them under warranty with zero dramas. The replacement ones have a different type of leather on them, which doesn't appear to suffer the same issues.

Later model MQs have a different steering wheel to the original ones, and it doesn't suffer the same problems either.
