7500 km services

Ok guys I'm creeping up to the 7500km mark and was wondering if everyone is doing the in between service recommended by Mitsubishi . Are you taking it in to the dealer or just doing your own oil change ? When I talked to the service department it doesn't sound like they do much mainly dump the engine oil and basic checks. Just seeing what everyone is doing. Cheers fellas

There's a 7500k service? I thought it wasn't until 15k?

Really only worth doing if you do a lot of off road work or heaps of heavy towing. Wouldnt bother with the dealer if you are capable of an oil change on your own.

I would be tempted to do a mid service maybe even just the oil. At my 15000km service or 12 months my Triton would have been 16 months old. That is a long time for oil.

The dealers are always setting up the opportunity to reduce 'the burden' on customers' is empty their wallets.

As others have indicated, normal use is safety covered by the 15k service interval. If you work it hard or more chance of contamination then dumping the oil may be prudent, esp if your using non synthetic oil.

I recall when looking at the Wrangler when deciding on a new vehicle that the dealer would have me changing lube every 10k! Rediculous these days.

I have all my servicing done at our local Auto Barn and so far they have been pretty good. Before I retired I used the same garage near my work for 20 odd years. I avoid dealers mainly because half the time you don't know who is working on your car (probably an apprentice) and they charge like wounded bulls.

The benefit of going to the same place all the time is that they get to know you and your car and I always knew that if anything needed fixing they would warn me and/or do it and add it to the bill if it was minor.

As a non-mechanic I find it reassuring to have a more knowledgeable head than mine poked under the bonnet occasionally.

Seems like this is the best place to put this..

For anyone chasing a pollen filter for their MQ, the genuine catalogue doesn't list one for some reason. There is however a spot for one in the vehicle behind the glove box and a lancer pollen filter fits nicely

Mine is up for it 30000ks service. Do a service every 15000ks with all my cars, so also with the Triton MQ. This is not a problem as one of our cars has got 525000ks and that one also get it's service only after 15000ks. Important to check level though, that is more important than changing the oil every second day.....And it is also important to spend a bit more money towards a quality brand of oil.

Mercedes were setting 22.5k oil changes back in 2003 for their diesels. Around the 2008/9 models I recall they were getting up to 33k between changes, pending what the ecu determined based on logging what the engine had been up to.

So, short of feeding gravel into the sump or drowning the donk, or thrashing the b'jesus out of it each day, your pissing your money away with 7.5k oil changes. My old Morry used to get 3000miles between changes and that got ground through the gearbox as well.

But, if you use cheap no name, mineral oil, well then the extra change may be required.

If using good quality synthetic low ash oils, the time period for servicing can obviously be extended. The Iveco Daily 3 litre turbo diesel is 40000 klms,12 months or 800 hours and the ECU lets you know. The wife's Jeep is 10,000klm in Australia, 20,000klm in NZ and 20,000miles in America. Does any body think the stealers are having a lend of us???

Ha ha..the Jeep sales guy's face looked a little less confident when I asked about service intervals on a Wrangler at the time I was retiring my Vito. 10k oil changes! Was about 20 or 30k drive line fluid changes (all full syn from memory). Servicing was going to be a bigger financial stress than the lease payments.

When he realised a potential sale was slipping away, he went off to the service department and came back with a B-service regime that stretched out the intervals ( which were still excessive but suitable for what most drivers would put the vehicle through).

Long story shortened - most Jeep owners are probably paying for unnecessary servicing. (Apart from all the other issues they have). In the end maintenance costs and lack of room for my needs pointed me to the Triton.

The biggest cost I have to face is replacing the shagged suspension.

I've always preferred penrite full synthetic and change motor oil every 10,000kms. If you err more on the side of caution always check the oil manufacturers recommendation (varies). Also you can use additives to help protect some engine components, and further to that you can do an engine oil flush prior to changing your oil. I did these with a v6 petrol engine of another manufacturer and the engine was still fresh at 450,000kms (no towing, mostly east coast cities and highways). Also, remember you void your roadside assist with the new vehicle if you don't service with Mitsubishi. A minor service should be around $240-$280 from a workshop, much less than the dealership and it doesn't void warranty.

a bit of overkill i know, but i do an oil dump, filter change, maf sensor clean, Rotate tyres, and air filter clean (i have a K&N) every 5000, and then send it for its log book every 15k.

I do the main fuel filter and the secondary filter every 15k when it has its log book done.

Im a bit of a worrier

Interesting to see this. I managed to get the 3 years free service promo for 15000 30000 45000 services. However thought what's this 7500 service the dealer wants me to do which is not covered by this. What does Mitsubishi want exactly?

Bit of overkill Maxiy?

Do the oil molecules get time to get acquainted with the metal in the engine?

At that rate the local transfer station would be charging me for dropping off commercial quantities of used oil.

Milhous2, the 7500 intermediate services are more for when you flog your ride or operate in extreme conditions, high temps, dusty roads, water crossings' etc.

If you're using a good quality synth oil and driving mainly on made roads, the scheduled 15k services are perfectly fine.

Did get the intermediate service done on the MN as dealer recommended but says the MQ should be OK at 15,000 k services as now uses synthetic oil . Did get the oil changed at the 1500 first service though see in UK servicing is 12,500 miles (20,000ks) so we should be OK here in normal use

Only my 2.2c worth, but 7.5K oil changes won't hurt. Cheap insurance.

Do it yourself with a qualifying oil and a genuine filter and they can't say anything. Keep the receipts with the rest of your servicing records.

We had our oil changed at the first checkup but I think I may keep it on the regular schedule after that as we won't be flogging our Triton.

I have also heard that you really need the dealer to change the oil as there is some kind of counter that the ECU uses to determine the age/drive time of the oil, so if you change it to new oil and this doesn't get reset, it's all out of whack.

Anybody know anything about this?
