feel you pain Duck. I trickle the throttle and slow acceleration. I look ahead at the red lights, I slow down assessing the traffic, and predicting the traffic flow. No way, in city driving do I get better than 10l/100kms. No way can I get better in the big smoke. Country around 8.5L/100km at 100km / hour.
How do these chaps achieve such figures!!!
I am told no engines or drive chains are the same by a well know dyno guy in Adelaide. He has said in theory one engine off the production line is not the same as the next one. Has seen 10% differences in the Monday/Friday ones to the Tuesday - Thursday ones.
I guess you and me got the Fridays ones.
Great to hear that some are getting great economy (and probable better horses), but why oh why did we get the Murphy's Law ones!!!! Why so different??
Lament.....
Oh, still love the Triton by the way.

Engine has worn in a bit now. Everything still stock.

7.19L/100km over a tank, got 917km before filling up 66L. Again, around town seeing about 6.2L/100km on the dash, at 100km/h it jumps up to 7-8.

I just wonder if the good economy figures are in later vehicles? Mine is Nov 2015 and maybe the better economically figures are in updated and more recent factory improved tuned vehicles??
Logzy and Haydes55, what are vehicle production dates. Might have something to do with better economy than mine and others?

First tank 850km to 65L. Mixed CBD, urban and 100km/h country road driving.
What's that 7.6L/100?

Was using close to 11lt per 100km but that was with the rear tyres at 32psi (just trying to get better ride quality) but have since put them back to 38psi and with the last time I filled the tank it averaged 10.3lt. (This is adding in a 6% difference in the tyre size). But this is in a area where there is lots of really easy 80kph speed. The challenger used about 8.5lt/100km for the same driving. I put 275 x 65 R17 BFG AT on the triton which is the same tyre that my Challenger has but its the new version of the tyre (KO2) that is a bit more aggressive then the old one. I also put after market wheels on with a plus 20 offset so the side wall of the tyre just sit out past the guards now. Maybe only 5mm. I knew that the tyres would upset the economy but with claimed 7.6lt/100km I though mid to high 8's would have been possible with the really easy driving it gets. My 2005 Hilux (manual) used less then this new triton does.Hopefully when I get a few more 1000 km on the clock it may get better but would not expect anymore then a 0.5lt improvement

I was told one well advertised at roadshows off road brand tyre(C......s) took 10% hit on power on the dyno. This was from a dyno tune chap in Adelaide. He was quite surprised by the suck in power from the tyres, but couldn't comment on other brands.
I guess you have way up the advantages in putting on well known brand of off road tyre that performs to your off road requirements other than economy on bitumen. Such performance and longevity may just be an advantage compared to economy, particularly in safety.
I can't believe the differences in trip readings by the various persons in this forum. So different in results it's head scratching how.
Obviously the trip meter is not incorrect because I just don't get the KMs that other people get out of a full tank. My average on highway tyres is just over 10l/100kms for mixed city/highway/off road-(not that often), and I drive like it the last tank of fuel in the world!
I don't have too much on the vehicle.... canopy is the only weight item. nothing usual in the tray.
Have thought of chipping/re-mapping, but just a little reluctant at the moment.

I'm still getting low 8's (early build manual GLX, stock tyres, bullbar). But I rarely go over 100km/h. I've found I get sh** economy if I sit over 110km/h (for me 118 indicated is an actual 110km/h). I also get terrible economy towing (not when the trailer is empty though).

My experience so far is, if the engine is loaded fuel usage isn't linear, it goes through the roof. So cruising (mostly what I do) gives me good usage.

This is all so fascinating . I've been curious to see how the extra gear in the MQ would change the economy. I get 1,000 k's out of tank in my MN highway driving 95 kph unladen no cruise and around 850/900 in town unladen.

Hells that it's still stock as a rock and a I don't have a heavy foot but all very interesting

My reading was completely stock mq glx+ on 16" standard HT tyres. I've found if you lug the motor or sit too high in the revs the consumption goes up. When cruising I sit in the sweet spot of 1500-2500rpm and I haven't been doing much heavy loading or towing yet.

On a run down the highway last Friday night the trip computer was reading 5.5l/100km over a 120km journey but I doubt that could be accurate.

Always 7.9l/100. This arvo on the freeway sitting on 110km/h, cruise active 7.6l/100 averaged out to 7.5 by the time I got home

I have no idea how you guys get those awesome figures. I have had mine for 8 months now and mine has never done below 10l/100 km travelling at 110kmph in the freeway. My mate has a my16 and he gets similar figures to my my15. We both get identical figures travelling interstate..

The only time I see mine drop below 8 is when I travel at around 70-80kmph on the highway with little to no traffic..

Loaded up or towing?

My distance to empty typically reads 800-900 odd on a full tank and proves to be relatively accurate. My wife when driving the same vehicle in the same conditions drops that to 600 odd. I honestly don't know how she does it but I suspect it's driving style.

I have toyed around with tyre pressures and found 40psi F& R to be the sweet spot which has almost eliminated the slight shudder on take off also, maybe that also helps to deliver the fuel economy and I use Caltex Vortex

Out of interest, I put 40psi in the GLX (recommended is 29) and my fuel economy went from 8.2 to 7.5 on my fortnightly routine. Ride quality sucks though, so back to around 30... haha.

If you all want to get a better idea you should start with a copy and paste of what you have,

Model:
Badge:
Build date:
Gearbox:
Wheel:
Tyre:
Psi:
Accessories:

If everyone does this it will be easy to start seeing a better idea of economy I think.

Had my stock glx+ for a month now. Only getting 9.8 average. On the flat highway at 100kmh it's sucking 7.6l.

No load or towing except my fat self.

There is no way it's getting near the claimed combined figures

Manual or auto?

I've been getting pretty good economy so far. I'm about to take my manual GLX+ (with 265/65R17 AT tyres, bulbar, rear bar and a tray load of stuff) on a 5000km trip. I'll keep track of my consumption.

8.1L/100km average on first tank. Included 100km of city traffic and 400km of mixed 100-110 and slowing for country towns. I'll edit this post for updates rather than creating a new post each day.
