2.4 diesel missing

2.4 diesel missing

Postby daniel944 on Tue Sep 01, 2015 2:17 pm

So after she gets up to operating temperature when sitting at the lights I notice what I can only describe as a slight miss mabey once every 20-30sec. Sometimes it cause a vibration through the body. When it happens the tacho also drops a bit (50-200rpm). Also I have noticed fuel usage is not as good as other's are reporting - after 1000km it looks to be no better than my old 3.2?
Has anyone else experienced this also?

Thanks

What kind of fuel usage have you gotten? Recently I've been getting 6-7.8L/100km on mine which is pretty much always empty. As for funny sounds and such I wouldn't have a clue cause diesel motors are completely new to me but when its idling it does rattle a fair bit say compared to petrol v8. This is probably no help tho.

It's probably the Air conditioning compressor cutting out. Try turning the A/C off and see if it does it.

Air con compressor cutting in results in an increase of revs from my knowledge.

Yep. He said it's dropping revs, hence I said the AC compressor cutting out.

I got 550km to the last tank which is almost exactly what the old 3.2 got with the same driving (plus the 3.2 had a canopy, roof racks and a bull bar which the MQ dosn't).
Its not the AC, I have tried it with the AC off and it made no difference - it is very obvious when the AC comes on it is a smooth increase and decrease and is predictable. What I am experiencing is sudden, random and harsh.
My main concern was if this was some sort of learning function or something that others have experienced, as it seems not I will report it to the dealer.

Thanks

Yep, this sounds like a job for the dealer, especially as the car is probably still under warranty and it probably won't cost you anything.

Dont baby it, drive it.
Give it some firm acceleration, make it pull through the revs once its all properly up to temp.

You maybe right on the button.. I remember my my14 MN was smokey and rough when i picked her up.. Dealer said they had some protection lube in them from factory and that it would clean up after a good run.. Gave it a good work out and she was fine.. Picked up the MQ mid way thru a boat delivery.. Left the dealers with a 7m hardtop attached put her straight ti work and drove 300k.. Shes been great,,
Alot of the New mercury outboards ( fourstrokes) also run like a bag of shite outa the box untill u give them a good flogging then they run beauty.

Take it to the dealer. There is a service bulletin for rough idling. Two step fix. Carry out a fuel pump initialisation followed by an SQL.
If you're in Brisbane come see me, pm for details

Have exactly the same miss in my new one and am getting the poor fuel economy as well .around 520-600 a tank.only does it when in gear (have auto) aircon off. Does not do it when in neutral. Mine is brand new only 1400ks on clock.would love to here from others with this problem and if they have had it fixed ,and economy sorted out.

There is an ECU update now available which should rectify this issue (engine stumbling/nearly stalling at idle while in drive)

I spoke to Mits technical today and they said a hotline fix would be released soon, so all dealers should be up to speed with this issue soon

I eventually had the new ECU update installed by mits. ..., triton running great now, excellent economy and it really goes hard. I was not at all happy before this and thinking of selling it and keeping old cruiser...but not now. Get this fix asap. Cheers.
