MQ FUEL FILTER REPLACEMENT

MQ FUEL FILTER REPLACEMENT

Postby WUNSIE on Mon Oct 24, 2016 5:37 pm

Hi all, rang up local Mitsi dealer this arvo to get a price for the fuel filter (Diesel) and they gave me a price of $87.78.
If this is correct what are peoples thoughts of compatible aftermarket filters eg Ryco, I was expecting may be around the $25-$30 mark, but $87
Might have to try a few more dealers and see what they can do.
If peoples opinion of OEM Mitsubishi filters are the ants pants of filters, then Ive got no problem in paying it, just hit 5000km mark, so id like to change it out as being the initial filter,
Cheers all WUNSIE

I rang another dealer yesterday he said quote; Oh yeah they are only a little filter, he came back & said I hope you are sitting down $63
Not bad saving, almost $25 from one dealer to another
Just on a side note does anyone know what mob actually makes Mitsi filters, Ive heard some horror stories about Ryco now they are made in China, but then again I reckon 90% of filters are made in China

I looked at the Ryco filters for our Suzuki's and they looked pretty crappy compared to genuine and no price advantage.

I've been using the complete filter kits from Brett's trucks and found the supplied units are well made. For around $70 you get as good if not better quality compared to genuine.

Ultimately, any filter you fit yourself is going to be MUCH better than a dealer one that hasn't been changed.

Another point to consider is that what you save in filter costs allows you to spend on better oils. :)

Totally agree there RHK, as I said to the spare parts guy, you would think the fuel filters would only be around the $20 mark, similar to the genuine oil filters to encourage owners to change them, I can see a lot of owners who will fail to change them out once warranty runs out considering $10k Common Rail rebuilds due to dirty/contaminated fuel

Some of you MQ guys may have to go and do some research, but I can tell you this:

I run the Ryco Z699 fuel filter in my Pajero. It filters down to 4μm at 94.4% efficiency which means that I don't need a secondary filter. Cost? I don't recall exactly but around $40 which I thought was pretty reasonable and about 2/3 the price of the genuine article which has the filtration ability of flyscreen mesh..

It would be worth checking the specs on the Ryco filter for the MQ - if similar you could get much better filtration at reasonable cost and without the need for a secondary.

According to the Ryco site, ML/MN Triton use the Z679 which is quite different in size and shape while the MQ needs R2724. No data on their site on filtering efficiency so you'd need to drop them an email and ask for specs.

Got a price at supercheap yesterday for the Ryco r2724 $33.95 , say $34 which would come back to around $27 when they have a 20% sale which I thought was pretty reasonable

I know. The filters are different.

You can see the Pajero one in the left of this picture. I dare say that it would be possible, if you could get the top, mounting section from a wrecker, to use this instead of the one that's in a Triton. Would need to check that connecting hoses have the same fittings etc. but would be a lot cheaper than a secondary filter and flow rates should be more than sufficient given that the Pajero has the higher performance engine. I can't offer any direct Triton experience since mine was the superior V6 which had filters that cost about $3.50 and almost never needed replacing anyway.
