possible faulty scv valve

possible faulty scv valve

Postby dinos4x4 on Fri Jun 30, 2017 6:15 pm

from what i have read i think my scv valve has issues when idling in neutral watching the fuel rail pressure on my ultra gauge fuel rail pressure will suddenly drop down over a 1000 psi then go back up

While reversing at idle the revs hunt up and down and some times while accelerating she hesitates sometimes

no fault codes have come up yet

Sounds like the common SCV valve problem, pull it out and polish the shuttle as described in other posts, remembering to put it back in upside down. Should only take 20 minutes and there's a good chance your issues will go away.

Also give it a dose of 2stroke, may even free it up before a disassembly job.

Mine was doing similar things a few months back and I was ready to strip the valve but it seemed to free up and good as again.

I get the impression that on odd occasions a small bit of muck wedges the plunger and stops it moving freely. The muck either wears down and gets washed away or simply passes on after a couple of hours and things return to normal.

Its like the kidney stone equivalent for common rail diesels.

Re above; rotate the scv 180° when refitting, supposedly let's the opposite side of the barrel get the wear.

Hey mate, I had 2 failures on the MN, after that no issues for 60k km's, have a clean fuel filter too otherwise whatever caused the sticking will still be present when you fix the scv.

Oh and for those concerned, is this on the MN (and in wrong section) or on an MQ?

New one is only around $200 and takes around 20min to change over. Probably your best option.

My original one (ml) lasted around 130k and about another 30k when it packed up again. So you'll need replacement eventually.
