max rail pressure

max rail pressure

Postby mitzi1 on Sat Jul 18, 2020 6:46 pm

Hi fellas, just ran a quick test on my scan gauge and under hard acceleration the rail pressure peak is 140k kpa or20 psi
Compared to other brands I have driven this seems a bit low. Any advice please.

150Mpa + is about right

What is the fault you are trying to find?

The ute is using a bit too much fuel. only done about 7000 k, and was getting awesome economy unloaded. Round town was getting about 9 to 9.5 l/100 and on highway 7.8 was achievable on a long run and 8.5 showed up after about a 30k run on highway. Now I'm getting 10.1 to 10.5 round town and 8.8 on highway, which turns into high nines and 10 again after a short time off the highway. Any attempt at heavy acceleration and you can watch the the fuel usage climb at a ridiculous rate. A typo at the start, should read 20,000 psi. A couple of traffic light stops and it's up to 10.5 again. About 10% increase in fuel. Have also noticed at idle the rail pressure at idle s about 35000 kpa which is about right but fluctuates 5 or 6 hundred above and below that constantly . I'm sure it used to be solid on 35 with no fluctuation.Turbo pressure is max at about 20psi, which would be pretty standard I think. Maf at idle is between 4.5 and 7.8 mostly between 5 and 7.5. Idle speed about 650 rpm with 70% egr.
Any advice appreciated.

My average economy over 50,000 km is 10.8 L/100km. Totally accurate figure and based on fuel purchased/recorded. 10% highway/touring, 85% city, 5% off road. Boost is roughly same as mine.
A tuner once stated to me, he has recorded 5-10% power/output differences between identical models (pre-tune). Had the theory Monday and Fridays made models were lower output one's.

I got canopy/bull bar, roof tray, and when I put the AT's on, I got a slight drop in economy.

Somewhere in this forum is a MQ fuel economy discussion. Man oh man, some of the figures stated I am so jealous off.
I think my MQ is a Monday model.

I have only looked at my fuel rail pressure a couple of times and under hard acceleration I would see about 29000psi. I get about 780km out of my tank, 80% city driving. I have 265/65r17, steel side steps, roof rack, awning and miscellaneous stuff like compressor and recovery gear. I'm running 29psi boost and 150kwatw tune.

yeah, the tune would change things a lot, What was your stock boost and yours please, and anyone else who has a stock engine. I am hearing a droning noise coming from the driver side engine bay now. Don't think it is normal. But there is often a bit of noise from the engine bay area if DPF is active. Again any advice appreciated.

My stock boost before tune was 22psi. Idle rail pressure was just over 5000psi.

Thanks Gartam. That solves that one. My boost checks have shown between 19 and 21 psi so we're both ball park. My idle rail pressure is a 5000psi but fluctuates fairly rapidly up or down by 500 or 600 kpa either side of it. Both pretty close. Thanks.

I still have no idea what the egr percentage is at idle.
