New Theme

Postby Dave on Sun Mar 01, 2009 7:24 pm

Hi everyone,

I have uploaded a new theme for the site, would like to see what you all thought... it's a bit different to what you're used too.

Give it a go, it's called "newtriton" and to activate it, go here ucp.php?i=165

And select newtriton then click Submit... you can always revert it back to Blue2 if you don't like it.

Cheers,
Dave

Looks great dave 8-) quite cool

I notice on my PC it's narrower than the Blue2 theme and any post with pics has the right-hand side of the pic cut off?

Cheers
Andrew

Hi Dave, nice, I know how much work can go into creating themes, I build Joomla sites etc and some boards as well using SMF. I am looking at moving over to PhpBB3 to try soon.

The only think I don't like is the fixed width, but the slight changes in look and feel are nice.

Is the site done using 3 or 2 ?

If 3 have a look at these: http://www.rockettheme.com/phpbb3.

Mind you this is me not knowing if you do the templates from scratch yourself, also I am using a 24" monitor which probably shows that I like to use the whole real estate of the window..

Yeah Subi, unfortunately need to keep the images down in size to 600px wide.. but might look at making them go into a frame so you can scroll to the right.

Daryn, good stuff mate, yeah never been much of a fan of fixed width but it often does look the part imho, I am using v3 (upgraded to 3.0.4 the other night)

Nice themes over at that site, most of them are getting a bit fancy which sometimes it confuses people more, I like keeping them simple and easy to read.

Dave, on the image side of things, what did I do different with the images that I posted in this thread viewtopic.php?f=21&t=1592 as they all have the scroll bars where none of the other users do ???

Rockettheme do have some great themes, whenever I use one of there's I actually tone down the bells and whistles and clean them up and get some great looking results, each theme can sometimes have up to 10 or more different color styles, one of the ones that I use the most is chromotphore which has a unique color chooser feature, absolutely brilliant.

Daryn, they are phpbb attachment files, seems to work fine for them but the (img) image links need to be fixed... looking at implementing an addon for resizing the images..

Send us a PM with some links I'm pretty keen to take a look at what your site looks like. Never used Joomla before.

I don't mind it, similar width to another site I mod at so in that regard, it's something I'm already dealing with...

There we go, images can now be clicked on and they'll popup the full size... the same way the shed profile photos open up.

Thanks Blue... keep those comments coming!

Hi Dave,

The plugin is not working right for me, when I click on an image it just opens in the browser not as seen on the mod demo site, I tried this in both IE and Firefox and both were a no go.

Looks good except for the fixed narrow size.
I have just upgraded to 22" wide screens, it looks so small on the screen alot of wasted space.

It looks good. Is it supposed to leave off the "edit shed profile" link or is this me being dumb again?

Didn't end up using that mod, it was too slow and buggy with IE... so am thickbox like I do with the shed profiles, is this what you get?

Yeah it's a bit narrower... if you use Firefox, hold ctrl and press + a few times and it'll open up a bit wider.. that's what I've done anyways seems pretty good then.

Well I have looked at the width and found 900 just wasn't cutting it... have stretched it out to 1056 which looks much better now and is what most sites are using (average is 1024 I think)

Jop, haha... thanks for spotting the fairy :)

Greedy,

I have removed it from the top part of the site, there is a proper location for it where it's always been up on the index of the forum, under the technical section... the link looks like just another forum category..

Sorry for that confusion.
