Nomination for New Moderators!

Postby Buzzy on Wed Jun 02, 2010 9:07 pm

Howdy all,

Due to the ever increasing growth of the site, it has come time to elect additional three moderators to join our mod team here in Newtriton.net.

Instead of the moderator team or admin seeking members directly, I thought it would be better for everyone on here (those with 200 posts or more) to nominate forum members who think should become the new moderators!

What is a moderator? and what do they do?

Moderation is not extraordinarily complicated, but it's essential to the smooth operation of the forums. A moderator would have to be someone (preferably with 200 posts or more) who is very active on the forums (preferably visits no fewer than once every three days) and dedicated to stopping inappropriate behavior and making sure things around here stay pleasant and friendly.

A moderator on these forums would have to close threads that had gotten way off track or provoked an argument, split off threads that have branched into a different area of discussion, approve posts from the classifieds area, stick and unstick threads, merge similar threads into one, move threads that are inappropriately placed to the correct forum, etc. Occasionally there may be a need to delete or modify offensive or extremely inappropriate posts, but this will be rarely, if ever, required.

Moderators are expected to be objective and level-headed, and to moderate based solely on forum policy and not personal opinion or emotions.

If anyone has any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me!

Guidelines for nominating a forum member

1. The voting for the new Mods will be done by the Platinum Members and the current Moderator Team.
2. Only people with more than 200 posts may nominate.
3. You may only nominate one forum member.
4. Don't nominate yourself.
5. A shortlist of 10 names will be compiled after the nominations are complete. These will then be submitted to a poll, and the top 5 will be submitted to the Moderators for final voting.
6. The top 3 from that list will be made Moderators.

So get behind your fellow forum member, and get his / her name as high as possible into the nomination list!

We already have some nominations to start off with:

4WD26
daryn
greedy
jop
Homer

The nomination process ends on the 20th of June.

i agree with all the nominations above :D
Daryn should be a defo!

i would also nominate: Cowboy Dave, Wallace and Joe1234..

Maybe members should register their interest as well?

I love this site but not enough activity for me (due to ever increasing work commitments).

when I first read that I thought he said preferably visits no fewer than 3 times a day, figured I'd qualify for that most days...

What about NowForthe5th? He brings a nice calm tone to the odd bunfight imho.

The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything important, it's too late to stop reading it.

i'm going to go out on limb here and say NOT Homer. :o

....he will start to self moderate (unlike self medicate like he does now) and lose his artistic edge!!! ;)

You go for it Homer. Could be like Ned Kelly in charge of the cop shop though.......

Nah all good, some good names already there.

i can hardly post a photo, so merging threads would be a complete train wreck  :P

.......now what about Blue? A moderator with ATTITUDE! 8-)

what about that Subi_man though, i reckon he'd be alright as a moderator.........ooooh that is gonna come back to bite me! :D :D

Don't sell yourself short mate. You bring a great deal of balance to the forum and I think you would make a great Mod. You're my first pick. Jop and Daryn also :D .

BTW - I think making me a mod would be like having an alcoholic as one of the management team at the XXXX factory.

for the record, i reckon being a good moderator is heavily under rated and a time consuming responsibility.

i think this is as good time as any, to say Well done to both Subi and Buzzy for a huge effort over the years and even though i have only been on for just over a year or so - they have been doing it for 3 or more. Thats logging in almost daily for over three years!!!

i cannot think of one occasion where you guys have been overly touchy like some forums and you let us have a go. it is a great forum and this has a lot to do with the moderation.

So in a geeky IT way.......

Hip Hip - hooray
