Hello from Tasmania - first time 4x4 driver/owner

Postby cruiserpete on Sat May 09, 2020 4:45 pm

Hey all, from Tasmania

I'm a first time 4x4 driver/owner, yes my very first 4x4 and it's going to be an MR Triton to get out and about in Tasmania.
Some easy tracks first and then as I gain more skills a few more challenging tracks, but nothing too full-on.

I think my first mod for easing myself into 4x4 is a dual battery setup. I've installed dual battery set up on my sailboat so I'm confident to tackle the install and a dual system install looks similar but not exact. Then a solar setup and then some AT tyres.

After that, I'll take it as it comes but for now, I'm not looking at doing anything more than learning some new skills.

Cheers from Tassie
Pete

Get tyres first, I pre- arranged a tyre swap and drove the car straight to the tyre shop and got a great price for the old tyres .

A fellow Tasmanian! Welcome

Agree very much with Dave, tyres first, BFG KO2s of course :)

If you are going off road at all my opinion on first mods (other than tyres) is always bash plates.

No snorkel and diff breathers? Just don't go in deep water.
No lift? Hopefully just get hung up with minimal damage.
No bash plates? You drop the vehicle on a rock you didn't see and crack the sump leaving you stranded.

Not sure what MR is like the factory sump guard on the MN was like tin foil.

If any of you guys are from tassie there is a tassie triton/challenger club Facebook page. It’s not much but it’s a start for a tassie group
