You'd be hard pressed to find a Triton that has been used in anger off road without the dents shown in the second picture.

I have seem two instances where a major downward thump has moved those rear bars upwards.
Don't panic about bent chassis just yet. Just adjust your rear bar. Dents in the back of the cab are normal. Welcome to the club :)

Emjayar, helicoptercow had the same issue with his mcc bar and after a trip to the HC when he opened the tailgate got damage. The cab dimples are on just about every triton that has been pushed hard.

My rear ARB bar did the same after a real hard shunt in the High Country (same trip as Helicow above). The bar didn't contact the tailgate (due to design) but I had a reverse light mounted to the bar which hit the tailgate which made me look.

Just needed to tighten the fasteners back up again and all was sorted, just as a g9111 has suggested.

If you fit the MCC bar yourself there are a couple of extra bolt holes that need to be drilled through the chassis rail. Only discovered this after pushing mine up on a sharp drop and cracking the tail reflectors. This is for MN, not sure about ML as it does not have the chassis extenders.

I had a good crack it trying to reseat it this afternoon but the tail end of the chassis rails are pretty bent... I can't get anything in to lever it flat again. Let alone loosen some of the bolts... I was swinging off a spanner and couldn't get some to budge.

At this rate I'm thinking of hooking up a heavy load and driving around a bit. Hoping that it may line up again... Alternatively I will need to pay somebody to do it...

MN dual cab 2012.
Been a forum member for a long time, and read similar posts to this.
Went for a run last year from Brisbane to the Kimberleys and back, via Plenty, Tanami road, Gibb River Road , did 2500km between Kununurra and Derby, for about 800km direct distance.
About 600kg in the back and towed a 1 tonne camper.

I very carefully watched the rear to see if I had any chassis bend!

Did notice the gap between the tub and body open up, and close, and open again, and now it is back to about stock. Standard is about 20mm on mine, did get up to about 40mm, and any where in between.
The chassis certainly does flex with use, and I would be worried it it did not.

But no, did not see any major bending. So there must be some major abuse out there to bend a chassis. :o)

Hose the mud out then give both ends of the bolts a good soaking with WD40.

If you have no luck or want access to some bigger/better tools give me a call...

I saw a ML this morning with a pretty mean looking bend to it, went past me at a set of lights so didn't have time to snap a photo. But it was a tray back with big tool boxes, didn't look pretty. It was a white one so that would explain some of the weakness! :D

If only common sense was common. ;)

Saw a MN Triton on the Logan toll road 2 mornings ago with a very bent chassis, it shocked me that he was still driving the vehicle. Tray back with 2 very big tool boxes down each side.

Over loading; I've never understood people that want to go bush but then take everything from in the house with them  Saying that I had to put a foot down with my wife as she wanted a camper trailer so we (she) could take more.

The last couple recoveries I have done, I believe they could have recoveried themself if it wasn't for all the crap they were carrying. One of them were just out for a day trip and they had more than I would take away to the tip and back.

I just got back from a trip across the Simpson desert and out to Uluru etc towing my camper trailer in my MN. Just drove it nice and easy in the real rough stuff and had no problems at all. Although the camper trailer did manage to crack across the welds where the mudgaurds meet the horizontal/step bits where the jerry can holder is.

Cheers Andy ;)

I seriously think they are making aftermarket trays too long.

It's why I stuck with a tub.

if I wanted a tray, I'd build my own.

thanks for the feedback- I believe a lot has to do with the load and how you drive
if you don't drive expecting the unexpected, it will happen

you can still get caught out, but better to be caught out at 60km/h than 100

Tray backs that look like they are bent may not be.
Just badly fitted trays. The one I was looking at yesterday needed spacers on the rear mounts to lift it up.
Seen a few that look bent and often wondered

Its cheap insurance either way and the chassis is the same on either car so all depends on weight being carried etc
