Will a MN tub fit onto ML chassis

Postby ko7624 on Wed May 15, 2013 6:08 am

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has put a later model MN tub onto the ML chassis? Just bought a second hand ML with a rather knocked around alloy tray and no drop sides and have seen a few MN tubs up for sale. Just wondering if it will fit?

It has a Hayman Reese towbar also but Im sure I can get a longer towball tongue if the MN tub actually fits onto the body.
Mines a pov pack GLX and was hoping to put MN GLX-r or similar onto it as its got the wheel arch flares too.

PS I tried the search feature but it showed no results for the word 'tub' even though I have seen that word in a few subject titles......??

PPS Should have also said 'Hi' as Im new to the forum. Great website with heaps of info and helpful members!

Yes it will but you will need a tow bar to suit the longer tub

And a 3 letter search won't work.

The software used by this forum (and many others) ignores words of three characters or less, as well as many common words, in the Search function. To search for "tub" the best way is to use Google Advanced Search. Specify "tub" in the search parameters and then specify "www.newtriton.net" in the domain.

Thanks for the replies everyone....

As for the towbar, will the ML bar actually faul on any of the MN tub? I was hoping to just get a towbar extension tongue.

Does this mean you have actually done this fit up before?

And as for the size, since Ive got a 1.8m alloy tray its more like going from:

go to the mitsy dealers. they take the tubs off to fit the trays and put the tubs out the back. I got a brand new mn tub for $100. even though all I wanted was the tailgate but had to take the whole thing.

I asked Heartland Mitsubishi at Chullora and they wanted $1000 plus $300 per light! When I said no way, he then offerred $1000 for the lot...... I still said no way.....

Where did you get yours? Anywhere in Sydney or NSW?

No I haven't done it but a few have fitted ml tubs to mn's so going the other way is no different ;)

As for a tow bar extension the difference in tub length is around 180mm. Would be much easier finding the correct bar to suit

I got one from von bibras in ashmore on the gold coast for $100 but had to take 3 mates to help lift it. otherwise zupps in mt gravatt sell them for $250 and they will get a couple of apprentices to help lift it. all the lights and flares are still on it. I took them off for spares before I took the tailgate off and ditched the tub.

I would hate to think of the leverage that something like that would apply to the receiver. If you've ever looked at an MN towbar you'd have seen that the engineering that Mitsubishi put in to the sides and chassis attachment is massive, vastly more than the ML bar, and all to get the towball back another 180mm.

Yeah I don't think you'd want to be putting much weight on the back of a foot long extended hitch. If you keep an eye out towbars come up cheap every now and then.

I have a brand new tub for an MN with hard lid, sports bar and lights you can buy for $200.00 if you're interested.
It's charcoal in colour and I'm in Sydney.
I took it off in 2007 1 week after buying mine new and putting a table top on.

All it does is bring the tow limit down to 2500kg and its fine for my boat and trailer which fully loaded would be 1500kgs tops

My search brought this topic up which seems to answer some of my questions so please don’t shoot me if this question is else where (please advise where if it is)
I have done the MN - ML tub swap but my question is regarding the Rear Jack Bars mentioned above. I remember having the original tow bar altered slightly to move it back with the now shorter tub. Does anyone know if the Jack Bars are model specific or any modification needed to fit on MN chassis with an ML tub?
