THE canopy thread - see them all here

Postby subi_man on Tue Sep 02, 2008 1:03 pm

We've got a lot of canopy discussion threads, but I can't find one with pics and descriptions of the various canopies available.

If you've got one, how about posting a couple of pics (maybe a side & rear shot?) plus your likes/dislikes and approx cost if you know it? Anyone else think that's a good idea?

:)

All steel canopy

Likes-80kg load rating on the roof racks
Sliding front window with reversable latch
slam latch for tailgate
glass is privacy glass, same as rear windows of the triton
rear demister
interior light
clamps onto tub (no holes if you take it off)
looks cool as

Dislikes- (none IMO but) some people need lift up side windows, the razorback doesn't have this option

Cost-on my invoice when purchased new is $2100 but replacement which was just ordered today is $2800 fitted

Tritonstu, do you have the electric lock fitted so no more keys? I have the same canopy and are constantly in and out of it all day for work. There is a mechanism inside a rear plate on the door that can be fitted with a electric solenoid to operate the locks off your mitsi key fob .
I love my canopy and have tested the load rating & tie down rails many times.

Same as Tritonstu here, Razorback only red. Pics are on my profile. It's a great addition. Same as Tri about $2800 fitted on the gold coast. Not really a problem with the canopy but it stil has the gaps created by the tailgate where it closes so dust and water still gets in under high pressure. Like in a lazerwash!!!!. But I've stopped most of that with some dodgy sitcky sides rubber seal's for now until I can get to a Clarke Rubber. (Mine conveniently closed down the week before dropped in to get seals.)

I too am interested in the Locking that works on the remote Install. Please tell more.

No worries. The locking mechanism is already inside the rear door just sitting there (there is a plate that you'll see with 4x screws covering it) and all that is needed is an activation solenoid fitted and to wire it up back to the locking module up front.
I just rung the people who installed mine and they'll ring me back tomorrow with part numbers & costs etc..... for you to get in Aus.
I'll be in touch soon as i have the info.

Not sure how to put picture into a post, But went Hi-Profile Flexiglass with built through canopy racks Grained finish colour coded
Likes the
extra internal space (for touring)
Side lift and side slider window (access)
Rear large opening window (vision & access)
Racking system rated to heaviest load carrying
Strength in construction and quality internals

Dislikes
Obviously not the sleek look of the smooth finish lower profile options (but that's sacrificed for the added storage space)
Front styling where meets the rear of the cab (also shows rough fiberglass finish behind cab proper)
Wind noise from rack's (though not that bad) (Also I guess will chew a little more fuel)
Cost fitted with racks and paint $3000.00

Issues
Rear glass shattered on recent trip to Kalgoorlie, whilst on a corrugated dirt road, turned out the gap was not even around rear door (warranty) and one of the J bolt clamps popped out at the rivets (warranty) causing excessive vibration/movement throughout canopy.
The over the cab forward profile acts as a wind / drag trap, this causes some back / forward movement in canopy at speeds 80k plus, and of course extra drag chews more diesel maybe 1/2 to 1 litre or so per 100 klms extra,
Noticed that the tailgate sucks in more dust than ever since canopy fitted???

Re the Auto Locking for the Steel Canopies:

Just spoke to Airplex (NZ agents for the Steeltop Canopies - your is Razorback named) and they just use a std aftermarket door locking actuator available anywhere (all autoparts stores). They have used several brands from several sources depending on who has the cheapest price at the time (no reason why you couldn't use secondhand wrecker items either if you had one).
Here they are about $28 NZ to buy new. Fitting from the local auto sparky (includes the actuator) is $180 NZ.
The Canopy is pre wired in the loom apparently (Green & Red wires are the spare ones) any auto sparky should be able to source and fit for you over there.

If you guys have hassles, just holla and i'll try and get photo's etc..... to help you out further.

I seen one of these canopies on a silver triton the other day, I love the look of it, and it has a neat little rear spoiler which is a nice finishing touch..

Today I finally joined the ranks of the canopy blessed (thanks to Troy/triton06 & Natasha - all the best with the new venture guys)

TJM canopy, with side access windows and flush latches all round 8-) Finally I can ditch that crappy hard-lid setup... Oh, I've got to re-fit my tub-liner tomorrow too

Well fellas, I've bitten the bullet & booked my truck in to have a canopy installed tomorrow...I purchased the Razorback canopy for $2000, and they normally retail for around $3200 (according to Roof Rack city)...Im very excited!! 8-) Wiring will cost $120.
Its a display model which they've had for around 2 years with some minor paint damage (very minor)....which NowForThe5th has kindly agreed to fix for me on saturday.

I will post pics once its all sorted!!....I cant wait!!!! :D :D :D :D What a great addition to my new RooLites ;)

Minor? MINOR?? :o From the photos I saw I booked two panel beaters, three spray painters, a couple of apprentices (to get smoko and lunch, your shout) and an accountant (to tally the bill). All for the whole day at double time. ;) :P

I Have a flexiglass canopy. Was fitted by the dealer so dont really know the cost as they chucked it in for free. Happy with it so far, doesn't look as flash as the smooth finish ones but seems to hold up well against the rain. Has got an interior light that the bright sparks who fitted the canopy wired to the headlight wiring so it only wotks when the headlights are switched on. click on the picture to see the whole thing.
