Oil cooler failure is a much better result than head gasket.

I'd rather head gasket, brand new motor most of the time

You will have oil through all the water galleries in the engine. Suggest that you make it very clear, in writing, that you will be returning it to then to flush coolant on a regular basis till it is clear. They make a big deal about the quality of the coolant and possible contamination when assessing motor damage due to overheating.
Regular coolant checks with the proper instrument would be warranted in this case me thinks.

The oil will be everywhere.......... the radiator, all through the block, head, every hose, water cooling to turbo and worst of all the heater matrix.

Make sure they replace ALL the hoses as the oil will shorten their life.

I'd imagine the oil cooler element would be fine just the stupid O-rings have shifted as the others I've seen.

The dealer will have a flush to remove most of the oil such as cascade, but will take a few goes.

I'd trade it in and get a new one ;) , last thing you want is continual dramas in the future and I know it's bad to give somebody else the problems but that's life :?

I'm also curious what was the primary cause was as oil cooler issues with the 4M41 is not a popular problem from what I have seen....... With Ford Ranger and Mazda BT50 yes.

Was it the O rings under the oil cooler or the cooler matrix its self?

Hey mad992, nearly a yr after the fact, has this caused you any dramas ongoing?

Just had it happen to a 2010 triton bought dealer used 3 weeks ago with 95K on it.

Hi go play,

mate seems to be all good the truck is running fine no dramas or problems so i count my lucky stars. So is it your triton that has spat the oil into the coolant? did they say the solder joint had cracked as the cause :? hope it gets sorted for you mate.

Glad to hear!

Yeah mate, my Triton. Not one person I've asked here has been able to give me an answer on what exactly the problem was, only that the oil cooler was leaking into the cooling system. Have asked a number of times.

They flushed the system and replaced the radiator but stupidly put a non genuine mitsi one in which I'm back again today having them take out and swap it over so I don't loose the balance of the new car warranty on those parts.

This dealer being a Holden stealership (where I got the car) have booked it in at their local mitsi mob to get the radiator changed back and do the current recall while at it.

Lesson learned, never buy a used car from a dealership an hours drive in good traffic from home haha

Will all get sorted eventually.

Update 23/06/2021 117000klm Triton is running great again :D and with the car market the way it is with Tritons selling for crazy money , new tritons 50K if i was to flick it and buy new i would burn so much Money, so the minister for war & Finance says keep the triton and Hold it.

Sorry For my very late reply  It was the Matrix itself that failed and a perished gasket that sits behind the Matrix.
