Geez... What isn't these days? They all have issues of some sort. Kind of sad that you have buy a vehicle on the basis of what dramas you can live with and pick the lesser of the bunch. Then end up with something you'll hate... Older 4wd's are looking more and more reliable and attractive.

Google search eg Grey Nomads forum, brings up a few things - so far search found minor electrical faults.
But, found one where guy had $11,000 engine repair covered under insurance...but think was crap as said a mouse got into timing belt causing engine destruction !
Thought Mighty Mouse was a cartoon...

The biggest gripe seams to be transfer case failures and brake failures.
I guess in this day and age all manufacturers are having issues and it’s just luck of the draw if you get a good one

I wonder what percentage of vehicle issues are actually originate with drivers who have no mechanical empathy.

Had a look over the new Navcedes on the weekend.

They don't look too bad, nice interior trim and usuals.

Upper models had what looked nearer to slick tyres and a piece of paper in the window suggesting you'll be forking out $ 277/week. :(

Dmax in adjacent yard were looking a bargain!

I'm sure we all remember how reliable (Ummm), attractive (only to its mum) and well built (ROTFLMGO) the Lada Niva was. Well we may see a new one in the future and it looks pretty good as a concept.

That is something no car manufacturer has control over. It could also include a lot of dealerships too. :|

Since the Triton appears to be going up market $$, wonder if ssangyong might be aiming for that less expensive niche.
Current one has small, not very deep tray but there is a longer one coming

Do you think they'd be able to grab a meaningful market share in the less expensive niche?

I doubt it.

Price alone doesn't cut it in a more mature market like that in Australia. The various Chinese brands have learned that lesson, as have a few others like Tata and Mahindra.

Nissan could get away with selling a cheaper ute like the D22 because they had the runs on the board for reliability. Not to mention that it was probably better than the D40, anyway. Mitsubishi discounted the Triton through the MN model with the bare bones GLX and were very successful in doing that, but again had a reputation for reliability gained with the MK and ML. With the MQ/MR they've moved back up the pricing scale a bit now that they have more market share and a pretty much state of the art vehicle in terms of features and looks.

Looks are important too. Why is it that Mazda could never even make any impression with the BT50 while the Ranger just goes from strength to strength? Yet with earlier models it was the opposite. The current BT50 is a slight improvement but still suffers from poor looks while the Ranger is everything that a macho ute driver wants. Yet the BT50 is mechanically the same and way cheaper. Smiley faces obviously just don't sell when it comes to utes.

Unfortunately Ssangyong, although the new model is better, have only moved from 11/10 on the ugly scale to about 9.5. Random body lines are 'last year' - just look at the newer Hyundais which rival VW for smooth, svelte style and the MR Triton which has de-emphasised a style that was already out of date when the MQ was introduced.

If work is so terrific, why do they have to pay us to do it?
