I doubt it.
Price alone doesn't cut it in a more mature market like that in Australia. The various Chinese brands have learned that lesson, as have a few others like Tata and Mahindra.
Nissan could get away with selling a cheaper ute like the D22 because they had the runs on the board for reliability. Not to mention that it was probably better than the D40, anyway. Mitsubishi discounted the Triton through the MN model with the bare bones GLX and were very successful in doing that, but again had a reputation for reliability gained with the MK and ML. With the MQ/MR they've moved back up the pricing scale a bit now that they have more market share and a pretty much state of the art vehicle in terms of features and looks.
Looks are important too. Why is it that Mazda could never even make any impression with the BT50 while the Ranger just goes from strength to strength? Yet with earlier models it was the opposite. The current BT50 is a slight improvement but still suffers from poor looks while the Ranger is everything that a macho ute driver wants. Yet the BT50 is mechanically the same and way cheaper. Smiley faces obviously just don't sell when it comes to utes.
Unfortunately Ssangyong, although the new model is better, have only moved from 11/10 on the ugly scale to about 9.5. Random body lines are 'last year' - just look at the newer Hyundais which rival VW for smooth, svelte style and the MR Triton which has de-emphasised a style that was already out of date when the MQ was introduced.

If work is so terrific, why do they have to pay us to do it?
