Cant sit in Triton anymore :(

Postby amyh4n on Tue May 24, 2016 10:19 am

Guys

Need some advise and feedback I read some threads here about upgrading Triton seats.

So I think its time I need to buy some seats from wreckers to upgrade my Triton seats. I want something comfortable to sit on specially when im driving for long hours. I have shortlisted few seats below that I can get for under $150 for two front seats from wreckers.
1- xr8 seats fg/ba
2- xr6 seats fg/ba
3-statesman seats
4- pajero seats.

No the biggest question is fitting them , welding, spacers, engineering certificate.

Has anyone done it recently if yes can you please advise the steps to get it installed professionally and get it legal tick ?

I had read in one old topic someone had installed statesman seats what a legend.

Not sure what state your in but generally it needs to be engineered ( im about to do this same modification ) im looking at xr6 seats as they are pretty cheap and comfortable.

You need to find a metal fabrication mob and they should be able to do it.

I dont believe there are any straight bolt in seats for the triton

triton_guru, Im In Melbourne but moving to WA (as my family lives in Perth) in few days so either have to find someone in Melbourne or Perth.

Yeh xr6 or xr8 seats I found for just 100 bucks for two,

But ofcourse the main worry is getting them bolted and engineered and wonder how much will cost.

If its a really big cost then it wont be worth I guess

The seat is a recaro with side air bag.No fabrication as they have a frame to suit.An embarrassingly lot of money which I'm not posting here.If anyone seriously wants to know PM me.

Not sure on the fabrication question, but my advice is to buy full electric seats - quality seats. Gives you every variation of adjustment to get it perfect. You will need the adjustment, trust me.

Anything else is a real compromise and for an extra $50 - $100 when you're going to all of that fabrication and engineering trouble it would be stupid not to.

Wouldn't even consider XR6 seats etc...unless they've come a hell of a long way from when I looked at them.
You want Statesman etc...something with a bit of luxury and adjustment ;)

Do it once and do it right...

Has any one tried Lancer seats, my wifes SE lancer had electric adjustable seats that were heated., comfortable as. looked similar size to the Triton. kept telling her I was going to pull em out and put in the Triton, but she wouldn't let me and then she went and sold it before I could measure em up.

Yeah there was a bloke in Victoria I think it was who'd done it. I can't remember if they were a straight swap or not though. I think his were out of an EVO? Searching on lancer would probably get you to it eventually.

Based on the latest discussion, I had a quick look at some (2008, no airbags) Lancer seats yesterday, and they appear to have the same mounting pattern as the Triton. Unfortunately, I didn't have my Triton or a measuring tape with me for a proper comparison. The later ones apparently have the same side airbags. I'm looking on Gumtree to see if I can find a set to measure and check the airbag plug.

I'll second that one.

The factory electric seats that came in my MN Warrior are pretty good.

Set the base basically flat when in stop start traffic.
Get out on the highway, set the cruise control, lift the front of the base and recline right back.....

With the music pumping through the amp and kick ass sub (also factory fitted) ;)

Might be a bit of a needle in a hay stack, but if you ever see the Warrior in your local wreckers go rape it.

Cool 8-) The only wrecker near me doesn't have any.

I believe that 2007 - 2014 models have the same seats. The upper spec Lancer in the later years should have the side airbags.

Hi all,
I am looking at putting a set of wrx seats into my triton with airbags has anyone on here done that?.
Does anyone know if that will require a engineering cert in south aus?
And would the airbag system be compatible between the two cars?

At this stage i am tossing up between getting the seats rebuilt with something like the below
http://m.ebay.com.au/itm/Genuine-VE-HSV ... 2159713244
That way the seat frames and airbags can be re used.

Just really need more support the foam in the drivers seat has failed.

Thanks
Sam

As far as I know there is no "bolt-in" replacement so whatever you get will need some bracketry, runners or modified mounts, plus engineering. Find a seat that you think is comfortable and then look at whether it will fit. Remember that a seat that is comfortable in one car may not be comfortable in another due to height and positioning of pedals and steering wheel.

What about getting the OEM seats rebolstered and recovered.
No engineering , less hassle as not trying to make the two sysyems work together, although they should work the same anyway.
Should only take a day or two so about the same time off the road.
Cost should be lower as well

Jeez Garth, I knew you had a good idea hidden away there, somewhere. :P

Absolutely right though. Less cost, less hassle and you can get them done exactly the way you want.

This is just my opinion as I am not sure if the 380 seats fit our trucks. But they are very nice seats ,ours sux

Would be good if there was an industry standard mounting on the seat, similar to TV / monitor wallmount bracket spacing. Would be a boost for the accessory market.

Big thing missing in the standard seats is lumber support. On project on the list is to add more padding over the bar that crosses the back rest around the lower back.
