When I finally got back radiator shop showed me the gas bubbles in the radiator, so straight to Mitsubishi.
Twin cab 4X4 2.5 turbo diesel 2010 64000 km's. No problems with Mitsubishi as the car was under warranty (10 year powertrain warranty). Got the impression they know about this problem, bad casting of the block in some batches.
Replaced the block ,pistons, rings , crank and all gaskets etc . Because I had to wait for parts I got the hire car (2.2 ranger which u can't take off bitumen). Took nearly 4 weeks but am back on the road with new motor and great fuel economy. Planning for the cape next September.
They should provide the replacement car or hire car in our case as soon as they have to wait for parts. they need to ring the roadside assist ??? people for the ok.

I would call BS but if it is rooted it won't last long even with a new gasket

I wonder if they are going to start replacing gaskets to get a few more miles out of them. Delay the inevitable.

Yep

2014
28,000km
Replaced in February 2016

Took about 8 working days or so to get it back on the road.

No loan car offered by Mitsi and when I asked they pushed responsiblity for that onto the dealer... I thought that was bullshit but I didn't bother arguing with them.

Pretty good service from Zupps at Mt Gravatt, Dan on here works there and kept me updated and it all went smoothly.

Dont mean to hijack the thread but I think it's an appropriate place to ask. .
For those that have had their engine replaced under warranty, has anyone discussed with the dealer how long the replacement engine warranty is for? It could be considered a part and parts only carry a 12 month warranty??? :|
I ask because mine is being replaced with 6 years left (I got the 10 year drivetrain warranty when purchased in 2012) but I'm concerned that the new engine won't be covered for this long now because it is a replacement ableit brand new.

I've had mine replaced and I'm worried about the same thing

The paper work I got states 12 months or 20,000km for parts so it's left me wondering myself

I haven't seen the paperwork but I can't think of any reasonable basis upon which they could shorten the original warranty.

OK I just found the answer to my question in the warranty conditions:

GENUINE PARTS WARRANTY
MMAL warrants that genuine parts will be free from defects in material under conditions of normal use
and service within Australia for 12 months or 20,000km (whichever occurs first) from date of fitment.
When parts are replaced during the vehicle warranty, those parts are covered for whichever is the greater
of 12 months or 20,000km (whichever occurs first) or the balance of the initial, extended or powertrain
warranty (as applicable) except where any of these warranties exceed the service life of the component.

So all is good.

What i would like to know, has anyone worked out or notice a breaking point, where whats the most k's or build date someone has passed that 'possibly' your engine is ok. Mine is mn design 09 i think CD is similar. Or is it purely a lottery... no matter ks or date.

Forgot to add, mine has 120k and going well, exclude fuel economy but trying to read this forum for a failure pattern but it seems hit and miss.

Luck of the draw mate. At least we bought back when it was still 10 years warranty. Mine has 95,000km so low kms compared to a lot of similar age.

I'm starting to hear reports of replacement motors also failing which is more than a little concerning. No doubt some of them were from fitting errors (like the air lock problem for example) but still...
