Has your MN engine been replaced as a result of overheating?

Postby biggibbo on Wed Aug 26, 2015 9:41 am

Hi All

Pretty simple topic this one. Not a thread for discussion.

Please reply with a yes if your MN engine has been replaced/rebuilt due to overheating. Starting to see lots in different threads and would like to gauge how many of our members have been affected. Looks like mitsi are starting to play hardball if your outside the warranty period even though they have acknowledged there's a manufacturing fault with these motors.

Please reply below with a yes, date replaced, and build info

Yes
Date Replaced: xx/xx/2015
Build Date: MY10
KM: 161,000

Yeah

24/8/15

2010

168,000kms

Campaign done in October 2014 with 141k km's on the clock.

No loan car, good mate helped out :) Dealer did give me a run about after nothing happening after 8 days.

Took 3 hard long weeks for vehicle return yet still not 100% sorted as MMAL have denied paying labour costs.

Probably not what you're looking for but our Mudgee dealer is up to number 14 as of two weeks ago.

I know of two others that have let go and denied warranty as not have full service history and also not had campaign done. (One was next door to us)

They have all been from Late 09 models to MY14 with little as 15,000 ks. Not heard of any MY15's or replaced engines letting go as yet.

16 of them.........

Mid 2010 till 08/14
MY10 to MY14
15,000 to 170,000

Might be worth adding comments on whether you were given a loan car and maybe how long it took or whether mmal gave you any grief.

Yes
Early march.
2012 GLXR /63500km on it.

Had the whole radiator coolant change etc done by dealer in November
Blew coolant out the overflow bottle in late feb
No loan car, was lucky and had my car back in a week though so was happy with that service
Nearly 10000 added to the new engine now, fuel economy slowly getting back to what it was with the old engine, still prob 0.5L/100 higher than before.
My 60,000km service was not done by the dealer rather my local mechanic and it made no difference.

Yep.

Still waiting for motor as at 27/8/15

2011 GLX 75000km

Dealer keeps changing the timeline and MMAL have been nothing but horrible to deal with. Have taken no responsibility for the delays in sourcing a motor and have so far refused to provide me with a replacement vehicle.

Yes - Total engine replacement
Date Replaced: March 2015
Build Date: MY15 15/1/14
KM: 23,696

Took about 8 weeks to get a new engine. Car was driveable during that period but I had to keep topping up the coolant which dealer provided.

Loan car was provided for the 3 days the dealer had the car to fit the new engine.

Stage 1. Coolant not returning to radiator from expansion bottle when engine cools. (This can be also caused by a small leak in cooling system)

Stage 2. Coolant spewing out overflow then often remains above hi level.

Stage 3. The cooling system gets an airlock and engine overheats.

Hard to put a percentage on number likely to have this issue, but as you can see a few are coming forward.

MY11 GLR - complete new long motor , august 2014 , 110,000 km - burnt holes in pistons in cylinder 2&3 dropped them bottom end at 100km hr .... Noises galore
Mind you it took nearly 7 weeks before I got my truck back ...
Was a real stuff around as they played the game of " you don't service it through a mitsi dealer"
Funny thing was my mechanic was one of there's for about 6 yrs before realizing he could make far better coin doing it for himself - he still buys all the genuine filters and parts from them and they still tried it on me !
Now just going through the 3rd gear synchro dilema with them now !
RULES ARE MEANT TO BE BROKEN !!!! AND TRUCKS ARE MEANT TO BE LIFTED

2010 mn, about 40k, head replaced couple of years ago, was porous apparently taking about 8 weeks. No loan car as someone else who was having theirs don at the same time had it! Apart from that the dealer was excellent, most of the wait was from misty themselves giving the warranty go ahead.

2010 MN Only 64000 km on clock Can only wait to see.

Yes. Twice. 2010 build. MY11.
First time at 48,000km. Approx October 2013. New triton loan car
Second time at 72,000km. October 2014. Lancer loan car
Australian motors Adelaide and Mitsubishi were helpful. It took about 10 days both times but no paperwork is issued for warranty work.
I have it in writing that this engine will not suffer the same fault as the previous two engines.
The car has done 80,000km now and warranty runs out in December. Not sure if I should keep it or move it on?

Thanks for the info, this is good to know. Mine was tested for this problem when I took it back for the first service at 7,500k's and they said it's all OK. But it's something that's always at the back of my mind now.
