UPDATE #2: Just got my car back after 7 weeks.

Here is what was done, all under 10 year drive train warranty.

Bit stumped that there was valve damage but no replacement of pistons?

Drives the same, sounds the same..

Seven weeks off the road, wow!

Being in the dealer service regime, I would have expected a new head and valves, not a reco unit.

Hope she gives you a good run from now.

apparently 4 weeks of the 7 weeks was the dealer having to communicate back and forth online to MMAL, taking photos etc..

I said "typically when you do submissions like this online it's supposed to be quicker, WTF did you do when the internet wasn't invented? Keep someone's car off the road for a year??"

So today my balancing belt decided to chew itself out, and leave me stranded in a carpark, thankfully only across town from the dealer. Anyway I had my timing belt done 18k ago, but it seems the balancing belt may not have been done. Does anyone know if the balancing belt is supposed to be done with the timing belt?
Car has 108k on it, and is almost 5 years old.

Cheers

Having recently done the timing belt on the son's mn (210k), you might as well do as much as you can while the 'aggots' are exposed. Do the water pump as well.

His balance belt looked like it'd never been done and definitely not at the most recent timing belt replacement.

Gee seven weeks to have a vehicle off the road! Mitsi should refund you two car payments apart from being ashamed of themselves.

Why you wouldn't change the balance shaft belt at the same time as the cam belt beggars belief.

Idlers, water pump (every second belt change) as well.
The voices in my head may not be real, but they do have some damned good ideas.

If it's feral, it's in peril.

MN turbo lag? What lag??

My thoughts exactly,

What i need to know however, is if it is a requirement of the 90k service? and if it is not, what is the standard life of the belt?

Because if it was supposed to be done, and wasn't, then it is on the mechanic who did the 90k service, but if it was not required to be done, and it has snapped prematurely, then it is on Mitsubishi.

We shall find out today how things pan out.
VERY Pissed off at the moment, as i am going away this weekend.

Well my morning got better :D

Just got a call from my mechanic, seems the tension pulley bolt broke, and it was due to a faulty batch of bolts, so they will do the repairs, and cover everything.

Wish everything went that smoothly
