Gear Shift wont move

Postby jpb15 on Thu Mar 02, 2017 6:00 pm

Hi all,
I have a 2010 Triton Automatic, that has done around 100,000 km.
I have been driving it around, with out any problems, drove it to Work this morning, with no problem, but at lunch time, can not move the Gear Shift.
It is stuck in Park.
I have been in touch with Mitsubishi in Darwin, and they said "Put it on a Truck, and send it in to us".
Now, I am not very mechanically minded, but the thought of Dragging a Car, with all 4 Wheels Locked up, (it may only be 2), sounds like it may do more damage.
Is there any way of unlocking, or moving the Gear Shift.
Could it be as easy as a Brake Pedal Switch?
At present, it moves back and forwards, about 6 mm, but certainly feels like it hits something solid.
Thanks in advance.

Strange, considering u had no lead up symtoms.. Maybe rock the car back and forth, see if that frees anything up. Try unplug Battery for short while, possibky reset something.

Possibly a shifter cable issue.. thats if tritons run cables in this day in age

The Car is now fixed.
After trying to get advice from Mitsubishi Darwin, and getting the feeling, that they did not have a Clue, on what the problem might be, we decided to get it Fixed, by a Local Mechanic.
The Car was collected about 2 pm Friday, it took about 15 mins, to disconect the Lever, ( they were under the Car with a Spanner ) then they managed to move it out of Park, put it on the Back of a Truck, and I collected the Car about 1.30 Today (Monday).
They replaced a "Sleeve-gearshift Lever", which cost $ 28.75
$ 80.00 for a Tow Truck, They took it less than a KM away
$ 11.00 for Consumables, and $ 180.00 for Labour.
All up less than $ 300.00
I think Mitsubishi would have charged a bit more, so I am happy.

Gear shift lever bush. Where the handle pivots.

Sorry I didn't see you post, would have been my first suggestion to check.

The wife is always complaining about it being too long.
They need to make bigger car parks :D

Pete_NT,
He hasn't visited this forum since March 2019, don't hold your breath waiting for a reply.
