2013 Triton 2.5 Spat the oil out.

Postby BBJ on Tue Aug 09, 2022 9:58 pm

Hi All
Sunday while out for a drive with the family we was driving around town and all of a sudden i noticed a vibration coming from the motor so i pull over and lifted the bonnet and there was oil everywhere, so shut it down. It was a mess so i could not see where it it was coming from but while parked on the side of the road it dumped all the oil out of it. tried to look underneath but see nothing but oil pouring out which looked like it was coming from front of engine.

Now it might not have anything to do with it but i had only had the timing belts changed at 92,000, i dont do a lot of Klms as to work etc.. and i had done less than 200ks since belts changed and serviced. Mate got a trailer and we bought it and put out the from of where i had the job done and who normally service it, not the dealer. They ended up putting some oil in it to get it off the road and young fella said it ran good when started to get it in the yard and where he parked it too it dumped all the oil out but was too busy to look at. Haven't heard yet as could not see anything unless you take covers off, i am thinking a hose but someone might know more about that than me, as if was a seal i could not see dumping all the oil out.

Any ideas?
Cheers

Engine oil cooler loose or O rings failed?
Chris

If work is so terrific, why do they have to pay us to do it?

Yes well possible just seemed strange after just having timing belts done but could be just one of those things, was looking for a manual of the motor that might show oil lines etc.. Anyhow i hope it's nothing major.

Well been to see Mechanic and have found out it has snapped a balance shaft on the left side for some reason, so not an easy fix we was hoping for.

For some reason?

Did the seals get replaced when the timing belts were done?

I'd suspect a bit of inappropriate use of percussion tool.

Bits don't coincidentally fail, in my life experiences.

Camshafts can fracture when you dont use the proper tool to hold the pulley to do up the bolt. Im tipping something similar happened.

Maybe they leveraged off the something to get the belt off.

From i am told the seal was not replaced on the balance shaft as mechanic said if it isnt leaking dont touch them and i dont think they come with the kit. Motor ran perfect no vibration at all, as said if the was done wrong it would have from the start, i could be wrong. Watched a video of it on youtube but possible a bearing inside may have caused it.

The local dealer have been and looked at it and have not seen this before but are onto Mistubishi to see what can be done about it. So waiting game.

Yes, take it up with Mitsubishi as it has happened all too frequently! Have a look here:
