Maybe a seat at a different angle/shape is what I need. Will contact Snowy about his seats. I don't think spacers will help, the seats just seem too hard.

Your in Sydney South? Send me a pm if you like, your welcome to try the modified angle

Hi Guys,

I'm going to sound like an idiot but I tried installing the seat spacers today which I bought off ebay. I over tightened the spacer and snapped the bolt that is welded to the floor  . It was not lining up 100% so I connected the spacer to the nut and then proceeded to tighten the spacer onto the bolt on the floor. It started on an angle but slowly pulled straight as I kept tightening. I think it may have cross threaded an that would have put more stress on the bolt.

Before everyone tells me how stupid that was, does anyone have any suggestions as to what to do. I was thinking to weld the spacer to the floor but I am concerned that it will not have the strength that it should. I could drill out the bolt in the floor and find another bolt this same size and re weld it into the floor but not sure if it is that easy/hard.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Wow. :o

The stud in the floor would be welded in and I'd say you'd be very lucky to find a matching one. I'd drill it out and replace with a high tensile bolt and high tensile washer, welding those back into the panel if you have enough confidence in your welding ability not to blow holes through it, otherwise just sealing up with silicone.

When you refit the seat don't tighten the front down first and make sure that you don't cross-thread anything. Gently does it. ;)

If work is so terrific, why do they have to pay us to do it?

Thanks for the reply.

Yea I think the best way will be to drill out the stud and replace the stud with the same sized bolt. I read earlier the size of the bolt has been mentioned.

Pain in the ass but I only have myself to blame.

Thanks again

wow...bugger
the ones off ebay where you fit a new bolt rather than use the factory nut?
post a pic if you can, i might have a better idea than drilling a hole in your floor, but would rather see a pic before opening my mouth.
PM me if you like for email address

Seat lifters

Postby peterg on Tue Jul 14, 2015 7:41 am

I have been reading about the spacers that are bolted under the front seats to better align the seat for comfort. The big question - where do I get them?
I have searched through the many topics that mention these spacers but cannot get a lead.

Help!

Just came back from a test drive after installing kwikfab's spacers, world of difference.
I don't feel as if I'm sitting on my tailbone only, I've got thigh support too, great mod, and the proceeds go to a good cause as well.

The one thing that would cap off the raised seating position would be reach adjustment on the steering wheel.

This thread has been running for such a long time. There is an entry in this thread regarding re-upholstering the front seats.

It works and is relatively cheap.

So, I think I need to lift the front of my seats, going by all the positive comments. After lots of reading I'm led to believe they are about $90 per seat from Ted. Seems pricey so I'm looking at cheaper DIY options first.

Then I found these

Qs: Would this work (or something similar)? Does anyone know the specific bolt measurements I'd be wanting?

Cheers

At risk of sounding like I'm being negative they are only 12mm long and wrong thread and very little surface contact with the seat rail and floor and only 250 grade mild steel. add to that there was a guy who bought something (eBay I think) that ripped the stud out of the floor of his car.
Still you may be able to find something similar and pack it with washers or something, would probably have to cut thread down as well but that's easy enough

I got my steel merchant to cut some 'slices' of round bright steel bar and then tapped them all the way through.

I just screwed them onto the front studs and then screwed in a bolt o mount the seat.

With some shorter units, I've raised and tilted the seat and its spot on now. No more stiff back on trips!

I think it cost around $25 for enough to do two seats and a couple of prototypes.
