Thanks krazed i'll get it sorted before I send them on.
Might try and find somewhere closer for me (southside).
The larger saw is pretty stuffed with several teeth missing but is still sharp and should do a fair few more inner guards yet.

I spoke to someone today about sharpening the 95 mm and they felt that it would be almost the cost of a new saw so I have replaced the 95 mm with a brand new one!
The larger one is also in rather bad shape, missing a few teeth, but it still seems to cut fine.
Grant - I'll have them I the mail to you tomorrow 8-)

Hi Froggy,

Received the holesaws today and thanks for getting the 95mm sorted out. I PM'd you also, if you want a few $$ to help out with the cost of the 95mm, let me know.

Anyone who wants them next, send me a PM and I'll get them to you once I've finished my job. It won't be this weekend though, it'll likely be next weekend (Sunday 16th) and I could get them in the mail after that.

No problem Crawf? 8-)
that 95mm badly burnt on my guard (sealed with primer and hidden by snorkel body now so no biggy), I'd really hate to see it happen to someone else!
Take it nice and slow (unlike me  ) and it should be fine for another 25+ snorkel installs!
Something i didn't do, and id recommend you do is get some loctite thread locker for the studs into the snorkel. At some stage, I'll have to take mine off and to this because it will all just rattle loose eventually.
Definitely do not follow the template with regards to the holes for the studs! I also question where it says to put the 95mm hole as well. imo it should be 15-20mm lower on the guard but i wouldn't fiddle with is unless you are very confident!
I've PM'd you if you would like to contribute. but thats entirely up to you! ;)
Cheers,
Froggy.

Thanks Froggy. I've replied to your PM.

Just a tip for the forum (unfortunately a bit late for you Froggy :( ), when using the hole saws, always have the drill on a slower speed and dip the hole saw in a container of water every 20 or 30 seconds to keep it cooler. This will prolong the life of the hole saw.

Hi Snorkellers,

Mention was made of dipping the holesaw in water to keep it cool, which I can understand alright.
Any opinions out there on the use of cutting oil or grease (eg Rocol) :?:
Any likelyhood of staining the duco :?:

I'm gonna have to take the plunge and hack into my panels very soon . . .

The previous contributions from everyone on this thread is going to make easy work of it :)

Now - to get my hands on those holesaws . . . . .

Would have been good to have a gps tracker in with it so we could see them zig zagging across the map

Amazing how such a simple and generous idea has continued for so long
I'm not so good with the advice  ... Can I interest you in a sarcastic comment???

Yeah I used Rocol Kingbrown when using the hole saws and although messy there was no harm to my duco. Just gave the area a light degrease and hosedown after I had finished cutting.

Thanks to Crawf', the holesaw kit is now in my hands.

Guess what nasty things yours truly will be doing on his virgin fender this coming weekend

Stocktake of components:
Holesaw 102mm (slightyly ragged, but quite usable)
Holesaw 98mm (brand new)
Arbor
Step drill (as new)
Paintbrush
Cold galv paint
Loctite

For the next one in line for the holesaws, just PM me and I'll send the gear on to you.

Just putting this out there.
There is nothing wrong in using CRC or RP7 as a cutting compound for the hole saw......all your doing is lubricating the cutting teeth on the saw. Don't keep the trigger held in the entire time your cutting through....use short bursts of maybe a few seconds and stop. I got the wife involved in this process and put her in charge of spraying the CRC when I gave her the nod...:).....once you have finished, you can hold a stubby in one hand and your arm around the misses and congratulate her on helping with a great looking snorkel install

this only relates to when i had my Triton......not on my current mode of transport

double post..............guess you heard me the first time

i noticed in Kingbrowns list that the 98mm hole saw is still like new.............how many people that have used this kit....actually used a hole saw on the inside. With the irregular surface, i found it near impossible to use the hole saw and just ended up drilling 50 odd little holes to make one large enough to get the flexi hose through

95 mm is for the outside guard. Larger one is for the inside.
That's why there are teeth missing etc. The irregular surface makes it easier to cut too unlike the outside where the whole saw is in contact at once.

Well, I'm happy to report that the evil deed has been done :D
Not a single stuff-up either

Snorkel instal went like clockwork - but may not have been so without all the background info that was gleaned here.
Aren't those step drills a great thing too :!:

Getting the uppermost nuts started on the studs up under the guard was a bitch of a thing. Ended up taping the nut to my finger before guiding it onto the stud. Where there's a will there's a way.

So, whomever needs the holesaw kit next, please PM me with your details and I'll send it on to you, pronto.

G'day there Bounce,

The coleslaw kit is most certainly available - provided I can fight my way through swarms of pesty black ants to get to my shed. The little swines converge on the house from every corner of the paddock :x I swear they thrive on insecticides :!: I'm gonna nuke the lot of them one of these days
Napalm might be the go when fire bans are over :?:

Anyway, PM me with your details and I'll send them on (the holesaws that is - not the ants).
