New Triton - fingers crossed.

Postby Still-Lurking on Sun Apr 13, 2008 8:04 am

After all my questions and research I've made my Hilux vs. Triton decision (about time huh ? 8-) )

And I've decided I want a VR dual cab manual DiD with a factory diff lock.
I have to get a couple priced and find out how soon I can get one - if the wait is too long I might try to twist a dealers arm on an 08.

In the end it's come down to money - both utes are good, but if I got a Hilux I wouldn't have enough money to really set it up for work & play the way I want it.
Also, hearing that the 09 model will have cruise control tipped the scales a bit.

With the Triton I can get most of the things I want/need from new and save on all the begging and BS with the wife to get more later.

I think the Hilux will have higher re-sale, but I am saving a lot by leasing the Triton for 10K less.

I still have to work out what I'll be doing with mods, with tire choice being the biggest question.
(Pirrelli Scorpion AT's are high on the list)

I think I like the ARB canopy & tradesman roofrack and am looking at drawer systems for my photo gear.

Thanks for all the help so far - this and the Hilux forum have been a real find and it's helped no end to ask questions direct to people who drive these things.

I'll keep everyone posted !

David.

Good Choice still lurking, Ive watching your journey and relate so much to the questions you asked as someone who had the same journey weeks earlier.
Make sure you get the MY09 mate, I think resale will be superb later on with factory cruise etc. I am still waiting to hear back from the dealer if the 17" standard rims is true as well with the MY09, a bonus if it is.
regards
Brenton:)

"I am still waiting to hear back from the dealer if the 17" standard rims is true"

Its listed on the Triton specs page on Mitsubishi website.

The top two models now come with 17" alloys as standard equipment.

Gee, thats a turnaround for Mitsubishi.
The website was at least 3 months behind the times.

Still Lurking,
Congrats, I'm also putting my deposit on on Monday after the longest period of procrastinating ever.

I'm going to take the proceeding model however, as with a further discount I can put the choise of wheels and tyres (at Mitsubishis expence)

Hadn't really thought about the resale however.

Still Lurking, I hope the wait doesn't affect you like me. I signed the Thursday before Easter and the stealer managed to get the car into Adelaide last Wed. (9/4). The car was coming from Victoria. No doubt they took their time to save transport costs. Stuff the customer. Still waiting on delivery date nearly a week later as half the ARB catalogue has to be fitted. Still very excited to get it. Just hope it arrives before the long weekend
I'd rather have a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal labotomy!

It ain't pretty being easy!!

Have to wait & see what it's going to be like to get one, but I am excited about it now the decision has been made..

If the 09 is going to take too long I'll go for an 08 - not a deal breaker one way or the other..

I'm going to talk to a dealer in the country on Friday that's sold me two new cars in the last 10 years and see what they can with the price - then off to ARB (Artarmon) to work out what I can afford from them..

I know I want the ARB canopy at least, suspension and maybe a roof rack.

I also have to look at a custom set of drawers for my gear - I had a lock-up built for the back of a Patrol I had a while back and it made life easy to leave stuff locked & secure.
Most of the off the shelf units are too shallow for camera bags.

I should change my name from 'Still-lurking' too 'Lurking with intent'

Mate Congrats on the Triton, glad you made a balanced decision between the Hilux and the Triton which we also got to read on new hilux as well. The arb dealer you mentioned is good but they do need to sharpen the pencils on some stuff. All the gear on mine was supplied through them and if I did it again I would have shopped around a little more. I know all the guys down there, and paid many of there mortgage repayments. I have spent +25000k down there and got a free hat and shirt. LOL. There gear is good and service is great but prices seem to be a little upward of what I have heard others pay with comparisons.
Good Luck

I have framed and mounted both on the wall in the study. 8-) And will hand them down to my children as inheritance. ;)
You have a diff lock, what aftermarket goodies are you you thinking of fitting?

A lot of it depends on the price of the truck, but I want a diff lock, canopy, locking drawers and good tires as a minimum.
A suspension upgrade would be next and then a bullbar & towbar.

I see some 07/08 Tritons advertised online out of Victoria for around 37,ooo drive away.
Not sure how much that would be with a NSW Biz rego.

Anyone bought one like this ?

I have been told by Mitsu that the diff lock option will not be available on the MY09 VR model as I was looking at this model also. So now an moving to the GLXR. Please correct me if I am wrong as I would prefer the VR myself as I do not need the hard ute lid and roll bar as I am fitting an Ironman canopy and bullbar.

Just been advised by my dealer that the MY09 VR will have the diff lock option, cruise control and 17" wheels.

I don't know how much i want 17' wheels - there wouldn't be the range of LT rubber for them would there ?
Have to find out what the tire size is yet..

Cruise control is a must though.

I have just signed a contract on the "new" triton. Its a VR with diff lock cruise and 17" rims (245/65/17).

If the VR does not come with these goodies I think the dealer is going to be big time out of pocket.

Don't be had.

Other dealers have said that the VR will not get cruise or the 17" rims (sort of like the bluetooth now).

Ring another dealer and find out.

I'm still not sure myself, but its in writing and I'm going for a face to face tomorrow to finally sort it out.

Mine has May 18th delivery (hope so)

Should not be a problem getting decent tyres in 17" as it's a common size on later model Patrol, Pajero, Prado etc.

If buying a Mitsubishi of any sort don't forget to join the Big4 caravan park group, for $40 dollars you get fleet discount with Mitsubishi, on a Triton this should be around 4 grand

Thanks for that TRIGLXR, would that be on top of, or the same as a discount for an ABN ?

We've all got 17's over here, (and 18's, 20's and 22's) and although you can get AT tyres for them, there isn't a massive choice.(in 17's anyway)

He's looking into it for me.. ;)
