Test drive.

Postby Still-Lurking on Wed May 14, 2008 10:53 am

I had a long test drive in a Triton DiD GLXr today thanks to Alto at Gordon.

I had an hour and did a long freeway run, pacific hyw and even some twisty stuff in the national park.

I'm very impressed with ride & comfort.

But I don't know if I could live with one day to day - after the drive my back was sore from the tiny, too low and poorly padded seat.

And being 6'4 and 100 Kg's the driving position reminded me of my wifes at the birth of my first son -:o

VERY uncomfortable..:x

Later I had a sit in a Navara and it had heaps more leg room and without doing a long drive I would say the seat is much better.

Anyone else have the same problem and a solution ?

Grammar: Lesson 1- Capitalisation.

Capitalisation (n), is the difference between helping your Uncle Jack off a horse and helping your uncle jack off a horse.

What was that honky, did you mention Navara and NCAP in the same sentance?? 8-) 8-) 8-)

Nah seriously Lurker, the Triton isn't the most comfortable, be ok if it had Paj seats.

But like most of us here we all acknowledge that it's unconfortable, but you do tend to get use to it..

Nice thick sheepskin seatcovers make a big difference, in conjuction with packing up the front of the seat rail slightly with some washers - I don't notice it as much since doing that

Still Lurking I'm with you on this one the seats are crap imho :o

Mate if you are genuinely interested I can make a fix it kit for you with complete instructions to make them HEAPS better ;)

Have just made a kit for my mates ML as he finds the same and after sitting in mine he wanted it done.

I can now do a 3 hr trip and not have any probs where as after our holidays last year I had to see a manipulative therapist 4 times to fix my back :o :(

With what I've done and with short pile sheep skins it's rather comfy 8-)

sam

PS It's very easy to do as well

You can fix the Triton seats by retrimming or replacing them.
How do you fix the Navaras chassis crash performance?

As Subi & FSC said - perfectly fixable on the Triton, at little cost.........
Tip # 1 - Avoid stress & grief & low resale values with vehicles - do it once - do it right, buy a HILUX!!

The problem isn't just the seat - it's also the very small pedal box and the lack of tilt in the wheel is nuts.

I know that moving the seat back and raising the front would help a lot, but would my legs and feet fit any better around the wheel & in the foot well ?

([censored] - I am starting to sound like a princess ! 8-) )

Sam - thanks, I might take you up on that !!

FS - good point, the crash performance of the Navara is a joke.

I wonder if Mitsubishi would throw in a can of HTFU ? 8-)

There is tilt adjustment for the steering wheel mate, it's just a bit hard to find the lever

If you think the footwell in the Triton is cramped, then hope you never have the misfortune to drive a Dodge Nitro, or Jeep Wrangler - I hardly had room for my two feet side-by-side  (let alone my third 8-) )

8-) at the can of HTFU 8-) :)

The only problem i had from day one was the seat...lack of padding, comfort and height adjustment.
I to am 6"4 and a centurian!
I havent made any adjustments to it and drive 100kms per day and am now pretty used to it. I am considering some good quality sheepskin covers though.
Sam....what is involved in your "kit" am interested...PM me.

I'm built the same and haven't noticed the uncomfortable seat yet but the lack of steering wheel adjustment (I have found the level subi) is an issue getting my legs under. It's been built for midgets in that regard

My drivers side seat hss bedded in better than the passenger side, I can notice quite a differance between the two. I am about 185 cm 90kg, maybe I need to get rid of stringdick and get a heavier apprentice or a good women about the same size as me to fix up the passenger seat. ( although that could end up being more work on the passenger seat then, and I might wear it out to early)

Some good news -

I had a look at a Racro seat in a single cab Hibux at ARB (Traction4) today and it was much better than a stock seat - even in the cramped single cab.
I hear that the mounts can be adjusted so it would go back further, but I would loose some forward travel and hobitts might not be able to drive my truck.
I'm comfortable with that.

They cost the earth ($2000:o ), but it would still be cheaper than getting the Navara.
(That's a lot of cans of HTFU8-) )

I'm still going to have a long drive in one tomorrow for peace of mind, but the Triton is still #1.

marty what I do is cut 2 inserts out of 6mm poly plastic sheet that clip into the seat frame on the inside of the back rest.
This pushes the side bolsters foward and closer together which gives more lumber and side support. ;)
Then I do a bit of trimming of the seat foam at the back so the whole thing goes back together and you would never know it's been doctored other than it's heaps more comfy :) :)
It took me a few goes to get the plastic bits right though :o :(

I rang a dealer in the country for some advice on moving the seat ect. and he suggested I should " put a couple of bricks on my head" .

8-)
