I'm coming from an 03 D22 Navara 3.0L with all the goodies you can imagine, and the only reason I'm upgrading is due to lack of leg room. I was hesitant to buy a Triton as I had no idea about their history but reading this has set my nerves at ease. I plan on doing lots of touring with her and some off roading. Hope to see some of you fellas out and about sometime.

Me too actually... Although I think they have been pretty worn for a while now but just putting it off and getting the most out of them... The drivers seats a bit crook too... The driver is a big fella and he has ummmm.... "ironed it out" a bit...

i'm in the process of buying a triton at the moment and it will literally spend about 50% of it's time on rough corrugated beach tracks so it's good to see they'll hold up to some abuse.
Very interesting there was no mention of any surging or loss of power or any other issues associated with the EGR circulation in 250,000km. Anyone else think of this? this is meant to be the biggest major issue with the triton as far as i can figure out but Mick doesn't mention it at all.
My partners diesel Captiva also needs to be run periodically at over 80km/h to burn off the crap. She was told this when she purchased it brand new so we make sure we take it out of town every now and then. You can definitely notice if you don't - it starts to run poorly then the engine light comes on as it clogs upCowboy Dave wrote:I've also been told that at highway speeds the ecu will periodically run the engine a bit hot to help burn off some of the crap. I've never been able to ascertain if that was true or not - it didn't seem likely but then I've noticed that sometimes my engine temps rise for no apparent reason while highway cruising so I've not been prepared to disbelieve the whole thing just yet.
MickFodor wrote:G'day All,
Just a quick check in...
The EGR has had troubles... I thought i was more specific but i probably brushed over it... It has happened 2 or 3 times where the Triton has error coded or just spewed black smoke and lost some power... These were bolts that sheared off or came loose from the corrugated roads but they said it was around the Turbo and the EGR. I don't have enough mechanical knowledge to know if it is a "Triton" problem, a "shitty road" problem or a "shitty driver".
As at today the Triton has done almost 285,000 kilometers and just got a new set of shoes today thanks to the crappy roads (if you could call them that) past White Cliffs NSW
It also has a younger sibling. Another TRITON!! only about a month and probably 10-15000 kilometers old...
All is well and i still would recommend these to anyone wanting a tough enough vehicle to abuse on and off the road...
For the price i am sure there is nothing better.
Cheers all...

Thanks for the update Good to hear the Triton is still kicking along with relatively few dramas (injectors aside)
