I knew a bloke, TOYOTA DRIVER, who actually kept a fire extinguisher UNDER HIS BONNET  .
When i asked him why he didn't have it in the cab where he would be able to use it/get to it he said he didn't like the look of it!

I have the diesel which aren't known for spontaneous combustion... i usually keep a small extinguisher close by for camping trips... under the seat with the straps i use to tow others out... ;)

Light guage materials seem to be be the go these days unfortunately.

Maybe Roothy has the right idea with an old dunger 40 series Toyota. Rough as guts, no creature comforts, slow, but easily repaired. I wont swap my Tri for one though, the missus would shoot me  .

I grew up with old Tojos and apart from the transfer case dropping its guts, they were tough and reliable but slooooow. The old 2H diesel wasn't any powerhouse and would last nearly forever - it had to, because it took that long to get anywhere  .

Great thread this. Good to see the weak points showing up with hard use and crap roads.
The voices in my head may not be real, but they do have some damned good ideas.

Great thread to read through. Keep it going. Between you and NTBB, there could be a lot of second hand tubs for sale. :?

MickFodor wrote:Anyone reckon i should push and get the bar back one and keep getting them to replace it? (5 year warranty means a lot of tubs)...

At the rate you're piling on the K's, I'm more interested to see how much warranty you have after 1 year. My tip: ZERO.

G'day All...
Been a while since i checked in.
8 months and 115000 k's in...
Mechanically doing REALLY well...
Not quite as pretty as it used to be...

The thieving bastards at Parramatta Motor Group did not end up getting the new tub as promised... when i got the shits and started chasing and going higher up the chain (Kieren is the service manager, he is a useless piece of shit)... they said they cant order a new tub (BS)... they said they will have it repaired and they would need the car for 2 weeks... I got the shits, we cant have the car off the road that long and it would only fall apart again... not worth the bother...

We have since started servicing the Triton with Ultratune Parramatta, like my Jeep and the other company cars. The service is better, cheaper and honest...

If we can have the car off the road for a while in the future for other repairs I may contact the dealer and see if they will still do it...

In the mean time, does anyone know if you can buy aftermarket headlight units one was adjusted by a roo and is cracked... apparently over $550 from the stealership?!?!?

I think we should invest in a steel bar and some extra lights for night driving... wildlife is a constant issue...

You can buy angel eye replacements? Also check eBay and wreckers. A bar is cheap insurance, no doubt.

mate with that many rural klms in what seems to be dusk/night conditions are bar is probably a must.

there is a nice steel tray design out there. not cheap but it is built tough. otherwise swap it out for a second hand one mate. they go pretty cheap if you look around for one.

nice to hear she is travelling well mechanically. 8-)

....i asked a country friend who has had some recent wildlife incidents about the shu roo and he reckons they might work. cheap experiment.

Ive heard good things about the roo shuu (electronic one) too.

One of the sponsors on here sells Angle eye headlights cheaper than that!!

Look in sponsors section.

As stated above a tub is cheap on ebay maybe $100 or so.

Give it shit! Love it!

I always wondered about the Roo Shu. I mean, what's stopping it spooking the big fellas from a ways off the road into your path? Or am I way off...?

Angel eye lights from forum sponsor:

http://www.newtriton.net/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=80&t=9420

Passenger side used item from ebay:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Mitsubishi-Triton-2006-2010-Headlight-/160711839720?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item256b2c0fe8#ht_4109wt_901

There are a variety of aftermarket lights on ebay as well, starting from $349 and going up to about $500.

I think Mitch, who sells the angel eyes on the forum, might have been going away for a fortnight based on some posts he made in the bashplates thread.

***UPDATE***

Sorry for not being back sooner... Work has been flat out and lots happening at home too...
Triton is still traveling well!

I think it's about 18 months old now... DONE OVER 220,000 KILOMETERS! Life has been pretty tough on it...

The headlight got repaired with some other bits and pieces a couple of months back.
The front end needed a bit of attention because of the corrugations vibrating the bonnet latch area actually cracked the rail where the bonnet clips down (Radiator support area?!?!). Apparently this was pretty much unheard of but considering the job the vehicle is doing it was not a surprise to the panel beaters... warranty covered some of the damage but not all... that's fair enough... Apparently no other vehicle would have held up to this any better or worse...

Few other little hiccups along the way like bolts coming loose and some actually snapping clean off but regular servicing finds things like that before they become a breakdown issue (so far).

Bottom line.

Triton was bought cheap for a tough job.

It does it well and I would definitely buy another one, especially considering they were just running them out for 29K!!
I don't think there is a comparable vehicle because of the price. It is a very capable vehicle, it has proven itself to be very reliable, it has taken a lot of rough roads and is still standing after 220K's.

I think for a few extra bucks (like 15K!!) you could buy one that may do a little better but from what I hear I doubt they would last any longer.

Cheers all...
Hope to be back soon :-)

Thanks for the update Mick. ;)

It's good to know that's its standing up pretty well considering the job it's doing.

As far as the radiator support panel goes.........my brother did 3 in very similar driving conditions on a D40 navara. so count yourself lucky.

good to hear of the relatively small problems identified- most users won't be that hard on the triton- constant dirt.

250,000.00 k's.
A couple more issues of bolts snapping and coming undone... I'd say that the springs are about fried too but they haven't been changed yet... Lots of squeaking from the suspension still... I'd assume the bushes? Tyres are still wearing evenly though so not a huge concern... Thinking about trading it soon though... Logic says that it cant go on forever and might be cheaper to trade than maintain... Anyone want to buy it??

trade it on a new one- they are giving good deals at the moment.

logic- is a pain in the arse.
