Then a transmission fluid change/flush. What a bugger of a mission, purging the system and getting the correct fluid level.

Unit sounds much better now. :)

Hi RHK,

I need to replace the transmission oil too. Probably not going to flush as I understand I would need some tools for this. Any tricks I should know about replacing the fluid?

Having gone through the process, its not too daunting, but a messy process under the vehicle.

Luckily, the auto sump has a drain plug - this is rare.

We had 12l of fluid on hand.

Process:
Warm up tranny.

1. Get vehicle on ramps and level with jack and stands at the bum end.
2. Use a clean oil drain pan and something study to sit it on - closer to drain hole.
3. Drain fluid
4. Remove sump screws (leave one opposite drain hole loosely in place) let's more fluid drain at a predictable spot.
5. Remove filter - watch out, a burst of fluid will probably drop out from behind this.

We measured how much fluid we collected at this stage - about 4l.

6. Clean up sump, installed new filter - reassemble.

7. Removed lower hose from cooler and attached longer drain hose to cooler.
8. Refilled auto with 4l of fluid.
9. Started up engine and pumped out dirty fluid in short runs - monitoring how much and topping up with equivalent amounts.
10. Once fluid was clear - reconnect original plumbing.

11. Proceeded to bleed any air and return to correct level - this can take some time.

I was impressed that you can get at all the sump bolts without removing the cross member.

You will have to remove the bolt on the lower end of the dipstick tube.

Used 4l for initial refill, 4l to flush and about 2l to get to correct level.

Have fun.

Thanks for the writeup RHK.

Just gotta decide if I want to do a flush or just replace what drains out. I don't know what's in there or how long it's been there so leaning towards a flush.

If yours has a sump plug, you could first drain it, see what state the fluid is in and just replace the same amount of fluid if not too bad.

If its a little off, run it for a few kms and repeat process.

If the fluid wasn't too bad but going a smidge brownish, drain it, replace the filter and refill the fluid.

This will at least give you a reference point to schedule future services.

No sump plug unfortunately. It's due for the 90k service based on the 5 years. It's only done 40k but gearbox has been playing up a bit.

Think I might leave the filter and sump and do a flush to get some new fluid in there. I suspect the filter is probably still ok.

Aren't bolts with 32mm heads a bit of overkill to hold a head unit in? :?

That you've matched the colour to the rest of the dash satisfies my OCD. Should improve your sound a bit too. 8-)

Had to colour match this time 5th as the last unit was blue and killed me at night time. The sound difference is amazing and now I might expand a little further with an amp and possibly speakers behind the rear seat.

Fitted Rhino RTS tracks to the MN,
very happy with the result,
only hardship: one of the rivet holes (on each side) was partially over a spot weld,
this tends to make the drill bit wander,
pilot drilled with a 2mm "cobalt" drill bit first,
used a pneumatic rivet gun to pull the tracks down tight.

Installed a double din kenwood DMX7018BT with reversing camera so no more crashing into stuff. Also bought a uniden UH5060-OL uhf cb. Got the aerial in, now just finding a suitable spot for the CB. Its a tiny thing so it shouldn't be hard to find a spot.
Will upload photos once I remember how to do it or read instructions again

Very clean install MN Driver, well done. Question, do you get much sun glare with that double din shroud? Mine is terrible, yours looks quite different to mine

Added more auto fluid to the son's mn. Even after getting a stable level after flush, it still needed lots more.

Then on the way home from checking out the security system at a client's site, a large roo decided to 'kiss' my front wing. I thought crumpled guard, but when I got home there was nothing obvious. Lucky!!

Thanks guys, No glare on mine, got the whole kit and stereo from Aerpro so the shroud come with it total was $777.
As for the RV meter its still easy to read down there, but just takes a bit of getting use to down in that position. The kit also come with the new shroud for the RV meter. The only thing is they sent me the wrong adaptor to link the steering wheel controls. Getting that sorted now. Another thing we found out is you need an extension cable to connect from the green wire to the hand brake relay so I can watch video off a usb stick. Or just earth it. Earthing it is a better option as the kids can watch a movie while I am driving. The green lead with extension means you have to have the hand brake on to watch video.

You're taking on a great risk if you allow videos to play while driving.

As much as you are hooking it up for the kids, it will at some time distract your concentration on driving.

Are you going to live with yourself if you've run over someone's kid while glancing at the screen or adjusting it?

Even if you've got ultimate will power, if your involved in a major accident and they discover that the screen has been rigged to enable playing while the vehicle is in motion, your fried.

For piece of mind, get a cheap player for the back seats.

Gave the triton a 135k service. also installed a mann & hummel provent catch can. I only wish that someone told me to join all the hose fittings first before installing the catch can it self. The hoses supplied are very tight fitting and so are the hose clamps supplied. It would of saved a lot of cursing and scaped knuckles.
Also installed a EZ Oil drain valve on the sump and drilled a hole though the bash plate to allow the drain hose thought it. Draining the engine oil will be a lot quicker and won't have to remove bash plates anymore.

Just dropped her in for an ultimate 2 inch lift. The original suspension is completely clapped out after 5 and a half years and 120k kms. Can't wait to feel the difference

So the 15km ride home was sensational. Can't wait to give it more of a run. I'll be interested to see how it handles the work trailer tomorrow
