Cripes! The ole Paj copped it.

Roof? So are they cutting out the roof panel?

Re respray, wouldn't the whole body get sprayed to ensure everything matches?

Hail;. Proof there is NO God!

I still haven't got to doing the roof with tub liner. Just get so many scratches when tying and undoing ladders with the tie down straps.

That photo doesn't really show all the damage - just the big ones.

Yes, roof will be cut out and replaced. On a Paj that's a big job. The roof liner is held in by the trims on the pillars and to get them out the seats have to come out first. So, basically, whole interior. Then they'll replace the roof rails and repair the cant rails and paint those, blending down into the quarters. New bonnet and guards which have to be blended in to the front doors. That just leaves the tailgate and rear doors, one of which I did a couple of years ago.

What they haven't yet realised is that the bullbar has to come off as well, so headlights can be removed to access the bolts for the guards. Guess there'll be a supplementary for those.

If I was doing it, I'd do the rear doors as well, at least in clear, to maintain consistent peel. Assessor agreed that a spray painter is the worst customer - picks every fault, because he knows what to look for. I promised to live up to his expectation.

Quote is for $15K. Good thing I have insurance. Interesting thing is that the repairs are guaranteed for life. That's a lot better than what MMA offered and reassuring since I intend to keep this one.

As you'll effectively have a stripped body, are you taking opportunity to upgrade any insulation or sound reading?

"Guaranteed for life" has become a bit of a throw away line these days.

Like in my game, manufacturers offer up to 25yrs on cabling installations. The installer has to fork over money to be accredited - nice side earner.

With the advances in standards, most installations would be replaced in half that time.

I'd assume a lifetime warranty on your repairs would realistically never get claims after ten years.

That's a nice little water tank, great use of space up there.

Last weekend I replaced bushes and shackles in rear springs.. found the front eye bolts were loose and had chewed the mounts out on the chassis.
So thought it was a good time sto buy a quality mig welder..

After a little practice on some scrap I got some large square washers and welded them straight onto the chassis mounts. I'm amazed at how good these auto gas migs are!Click to view larger pictureClick to view larger pictureClick to view larger picture

Fitted some Forefront Industries Aluminum intercooler pipes to my MN today
Not because the pathetic rubber ones were split, but because of how much engine bay noise they reduce in the cab.
The 2.5 Diesel still sounds like a rattly old Massey Ferguson Tractor & there isn't much you can do about that, but you would be amazed at just how much of the other noise coming from that engine bay is actually caused by those sloppy OEM Rubber pipes.
It's a huge difference, and I recon my cab noise dropped by at least 6+db. Should have done it to this GLX Povo pack years ago.
I have also replace two of the original silicone joiners that were in the kit with some good quality Hump joiners which allows for the stationary/static pipe joins to move with the engine movement. Well worth doing with this kit.

Hey guys, don't forget that this thread is our answer to FB - a place where you can post and have it forgotten about.

If you've done good mods then start a build thread where others can track your progress. ;)

Well, I haven't done it yet but I plan on doing it tomorrow or,, soon.
I bought "72 square feet" of Aluminum backed Butyl sound deadenr today from a place in Victoria for $185.00 delivered & it is the real deal stuff.
My MN Triton sounds like a Massey Ferguson Tractor so I figured that on its own the sound deadener may not be enough to make the cabin silent.
So I also bought some closed cell foam backed vinyl sheet off BumTree and I think that the two of them together will work.I got a roll that is 8 lineal meters x 1 meter for $130.00 from what looked like a "pop-up shop" in Brendale QLD.
It's OK, but not the best but when I combine it with the sound deadener it will do the job.
https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/brisbane-city/building-materials/1m-x-8m-10mm-closed-cell-foam-car-auto-sound-deadener-insulation-noise/1245408664

For anyone who is interested in the sound deadener, their Fleabay store is called called:
(stop_sound_and_heat) and they sell a real good quality product at a decent price, and they are quick.
I ordered mine on Monday Arvo & got it Thursday morning, that's only 3 days from Melbourne to Brisbane using their standard shipping (not Aus post) and it's during Vic's Covid19 lock-down.

Will post some pics when I rip the guts out of the triton & get it all laid nice & neat (hopefully)

I replaced the rubber lower radiator hose , after the fan chopped into it, with a flexible steel hose.

Also fitted gas struts to the bonnet.

Next free chance I get I'm going to replace the oil cooler and my remote oil filter Hoses with braided steel lines. I have the lines, just need the time. They are currently being held down by cable ties which are cutting into them

In middle of replacing worn out clutch. Doing main seal while at it, been leaking for over 3 years, clutch has been on way out ever since. Can't complain, clutch has lasted over 180k kms. Friction plate nearly on the rivets, fly wheel is okay, better than expected, will still get it machined though so won't be able to go any further today.

Going with same HD clutch, Extreme Outback. Kit comes with all the usual.. new thrust and release bearings. Nice kit.Click to view larger pictureClick to view larger pictureClick to view larger pictureClick to view larger pictureClick to view larger picture

Must be a time for replacing clutches. I am getting mine done today. Bought a Exceedy HD clutch kit and having the flywheel machined. I am getting Opposite Lock Caloundra to do it. It's too hot up here to be working on my Triton

Done 195K on the clock and the clutch was fairly worn so this should last me for the next 200k

Finally got started on replacing clutch & flywheel. Started, still got one bolt to get out to separate the gearbox from the donk. I recall someone saying this job can be done in a couple of hours - wanker??

So far the evidence is suggesting a busted crank seal, with all the oil at the base of the bell housing.

Just have to wait till I get in there.

Love to meet the masochist who designed this setup and castrate the bugger.

It's not as bad as some but yeah still a crap of a job. No way can be done in a couple of hours if done right. The leaking main seal really makes a mess in there and takes awhile just to clean and remove. I doubt any paid mechanic would go to the trouble that I went to, took me about 12hrs from start to finish.

It's those 13 bolts on the bell housing srb, after everything, the bugger wouldn't separate only to discover one between the starter motor bolts I'd missed. The saga continues this Arvo.

I'm hoping that the sump seal isn't leaking at the back.

It'd be so nice just to lift the cab off the chassis and have full access.

Yeah hate those annoying phantom bolts.
You doing it on a hoist yeah? I would never attempt on the floor like some people do, that would be a next level PITA.

I've been under the Landcruiser for two full weekends in a row... just completed a valve body upgrade to the auto and low range reduction gears in the transfer case, made the clutch job in the Triton seem easy.

Running account continues. Finally got them flywheel bolts off! My trusty sidchrome bar started to bend, had to get adaptor to move up to 3/4 bar.

Once the flywheel was removed I was confronted with lots of oil. Crank seal seems ok, will have to investigate source.

It seems the adaptor plate doesn't actually seal off the bell housing.

I'm going to to ensure everything above the crank level is sealed to the outside.

Flywheel bolts are easy with battery impact wrench.
Oil might be coming from sump gasket? I'd still replace crank seal anyway.
And yeah that bell housing sheild is fairly useless at keeping oil out. Check mine out.Click to view larger picture

And you could still change gears?

Should have been in the process of fitting the box back in by now.

Got the spigit bearing out of the pack and it falls straight through the flywheel! What the...?

Anyhow, trip to two Repcos and luckily had a bearing. Beware, the bearing on their data base was the same small one in the kit.

Now I can continue adding new words to the dictionary.

Back on the road at last.

Conclusions:

New clutch feels very light compared to original.
I have traction again.
There are lots of vehicles out there poorly designed from a maintenance point of view.

A section of the transmission tunnel should be removable like some vehicles had years ago.

If I ever get the privilege to have to contemplate doing the clutch again I may have to see a shrink first. Lol.

Was able to tow 2t load last week without any issues. Great to see the Speedo rising quicker than the tacho in higher gears again.

Can't wait till I've clicked up 1000k on the new clutch, So I can put chip back on.
