Interior vibration only at 2200 revs

Postby mjt4 on Wed Nov 07, 2012 8:15 pm

There is a vibration on the drivers side door card or dash that only happens when the motor is reving at 2200. The unfortunate thing is at 2200 revs in sitting on 100km/hr so the noise is constant when highway driving. Had dealership look at it at first service 1500km and found nothing. The noise is doing my head in :( . Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Is it anything like the vibrations described in this thread: http://www.newtriton.net/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=7328&p=131943&hilit=vibration#p131943

Yes have a snorkel, doesnt sound like resonating noise, more a buzzing sound. Sound dissappears when car exterior is wet and when car is left out in sun for period of time.

A bit out of left field but I had a funny vibration in mine for ages, eventually found it was the Drivers Air Bag vibrating on its mounting.

If you suspect the snorkel you could try a bit of foam rubber jammed between it and the pillar.

or if the intake can be turned maybe move it left or right a little.

I know this one personally. You need to upgrade the firm ware of the air con unit fan under the dash. It changed the RMP resonance to below .4.
The only way to do it is enter the code 83631 into the keypad under the drivers seat. You won't find it unless you lift the seat out first.
PM Steane on here he helped me do it and knows the ins and outs of seat removal/keypad coding ;)
He Sorted it for me ;)

I had the same thing. Pulled the bracket off the A pillar and put some bike tube underneath and seems to have insulated it

Mine does the same, I also think the plastic crappy plugs which pull out easily are mostly to blame as my top and middle ones slowly work loose.......and then my carpet gets wet if it rains (like it recently did for a few days straight  )

Eventually I'm going to refit it all and seal it properly also using the silicone as added glue for the bracket to the pillar.

I had a vibrating noise inside my mn without a snorkle since new. I could actually stop it sometimes by putting some pressure on the dash or console near the park brake handle. Ended up being the buttons on the display unit. They are very loose and were vibrating severely at around 2200. From what it sounded like I couldn't believe thats where it was coming from.

Next service I got them to fix and they said they put some foam under the facia. Started vibrating again on the way home and then stopped and it has never done it again. You'll know it if you have it, it's pretty annoying.
