TMR Triton to be released downunder!!!!

Postby Mantis on Thu Oct 09, 2008 5:50 pm

Just found this, looks good as far as power is concerned and I personally think it will have the upper hand over the TRD Hilux due to it being diesel and not petrol like the Hilux...

Hi Shane
I have only had my triton for a short time so the test drives are fresh in my mnd - I tried the toyota trd and thought it clearly faster than than the hilux and the triton although I had a definite feeling that the additional power was not matched to the capability to stop quickly or get through an unexpected corner - hopefully this tmr triton is different.....

Essentially that is what i have out of Mitsi NZ already; bought mine over here a year ago: http://www.mitsubishi-motors.co.nz/corp ... m_0115.asp
Got to say i'd never drive/buy a std Triton ever again. Between the std 118KW and the 132KW it is night and day & it's a real easy daily drive. Hooking the trailer on doesn't change it a great deal either with still plenty of power to pull out and pass what ever i want. Pity you boys don't live over here: http://www.wrcdevelopments.com/pages/in ... ?page=home these guys are doing a proper ECU reprogramme to the same spec as what i drive not a plug and play & is accepted by Mitsi for the warranty. I have asked them via email whether they would accept a removed ECU from Aus and have their work Triton used for a "Mule" for the reprogramme and then send it back to Aus for you guys; no reply as yet. I'll keep you posted if they have any thing positive to say on that one.

How much is it really changing though? You can get those sorts of torque and power figures out of a DP Chip - and they offer you the warranty even if Mitsubishi don't.

132KW & mid 400NM rating is starting to get pretty high on the list for a plug and play without some resulting fueling - air issues i.e smoking.
Even on this site alone there is multiple posts over aftermarket chip problems - issues with smoking, flat spotting etc.... so i don't think they are the perfect answer yet.
It is hard to produce a single product to cover all installations and intended uses and after all it is only taking fueling information and altering spray timing and durations sent from the ECU.
I have to say my truck has had not one issue from day one, no smoke, excellent cold running, no surging - flat spots, last service NO CARBON hardly at all in the EGR valve and it pulls like a school boy right through the rev range so gotta say i'm in the camp of the ECU being the only brains in the system. I can't tell you what parameters get changed in the reprogramme as i don't know myself but i have driven another 3.2 Triton recently with a Spider fitted http://www.dieseltuning.co.uk/spider.html he also "Squids" (Shot of black smoke before disappearing) . Unbiasedly my truck still has the cleaner pulling power and suffers no ill effects doing it.
I'm fitting a EGT gauge soon so it'll be interesting to see the actual numbers when she's loaded, i'll post the results when i have them.

Saying all of that, i'm still bloody temped to buy a unit off Monster Triton (Megafire Brand) at 164KW & 520NM and bring on the good times! :D

I've been thinking about getting my Tritons ECU remapped instead of a getting a power up module...it seems a safer way of extracting more power.....

I just came across these guys...

http://mrtperformance.com.au/content/view/440/58/

The Triton 3.2 DID remapped to 147Kw and 430Nm...... :D :D :D :D :D

Now thats what I'm talking about. not interested in more fuel- I want the full picture. A factory ECU that has been hacked, Mitsubishi must not have spent the money.

Some more information courtesy of Pickle/Dave - thanks mate 8-)

TMR Triton Concept Car built by: Team Mitsubishi Ralliart (TMR)

a unique combination of sporty styling, toughness and dependability.

The design concept for the TMR Triton was to improve upon the great Triton base, by
delivering increased power, performance and handling, while remaining true to the
toughness and dependability for which Triton is known. The TMR Triton is a concept
vehicle which closely represents a production reality.

The 3.2L common rail turbo diesel engine in the Triton is well renowned for it’s high
level of performance, but that didn’t stop TMR from improving on this excellent base.
A TMR engine enhancement package has been applied to the Triton, meaning power
has increased to an impressive 132kW @ 3,800rpm and torque to a phenomenal
450Nm @ 2,000rpm. These are increases of 12% and 31% respectively. Definitely
more than enough to help get the tough jobs done or enjoy that long weekend away.

There is no point having all that power and torque if you can’t control it. Making a
great handling vehicle is a job that the TMR team is used to. The first area addressed
was the suspension, with Koni 8240 series shock absorbers fitted to the front and
rear of the vehicle. The improved on road performance as a result of these
suspension enhancements has not come at the expense of off road ability with
standard vehicle ride height and ground clearances maintained.

The braking hardware has also been given a serious makeover to keep up with the
newfound power. A specially developed front brake package has been fitted,
consisting of large 4 piston calipers with 343mm x 29mm ventilated and slotted two
piece discs with high performance Ferodo DS25HP brake pads. This enhancement,
together with the original equipment ABS/EBD system ensures strong braking
performance in all conditions.

To make the most of the improvements to power, handling and braking, and to
enhance off road ability, a new set of wheels and tyres were selected. The stylish 18”
x 8” Dakar alloy wheels neatly fit over the impressive front brake package. Pirelli
Scorpion ATR 255/55R18 tyres with a symmetrical tread design delivers the allterrain
versatility needed on a vehicle like the TMR Triton. Excellent traction on every
surface, reduced aquaplaning, top braking efficiency, the highest resistance to
damage, and comfortable driving on sealed roads are all attributes of the Scorpion
ATR’s.

Combining the Tritons highly advanced Super Select 4WD system that allows
operation in either 2WD, full time 4WD or 4WD high / low range and the expertly
applied TMR upgrades results in a recreational vehicle that has exceptional on and off
road performance and the ability to handle whatever challenges are faced.

As the Triton is already a stylish recreational vehicle which stands out in a crowd, a
few changes were all that were necessary to turn the TMR Triton into a real head
turner. The addition of the sports head lamp kit along with the chrome upper and
lower sports grilles has created a distinctive, tough yet sporty look. The finishing
touch to the exterior package is the application of unique TMR Triton badging.
The modern and luxurious interior has not escaped the upgrades. Quality stitched
TMR logos have been added to the front and rear leather seats. Stainless steel scuff
plates and full carpet mat set complete the TMR interior package.

The audio system has been improved with the addition of the highly functional
Eclipse CD3200 Multi Source Sound System. This head unit has a powerful 50W x 4
internal amplifier along with USB input, integrated Bluetooth handsfree and full iPod
control.

The TMR Triton is based on the GLS Fastback 3.2 Diesel model with standard
features including: Super Select 4WD, Auto Air Conditioning, Leather Power Seats,
Sunroof, Cruise Control and ABS with EBD.

TMR applied upgrades include:

    Performance:

Am I missing something? Maybe the spare set of wheels for offroad. 55 profile tyres probably not much chop in this case. Sounds like a tarmac tiger to me. Front bumper just a bit busy for my tastes as well.
I'd rather have a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal labotomy!

It ain't pretty being easy!!

Im surprised at the torque figures they are going to release it with....awesome....then again the Prado D4D engine start off with about 410nM of torque and with a chip and exhaust you can get over 500nM out of it  :o

Hopefully toyota will put that into the hilux as a counter punch....but i bet it'd be an expensive counter punch.

That pic of the triton above look good except for that really GAY looking thing on top of the tub and behind the rear window.....WTF ? :?

All GLS tritons have this rear now as standard.

Wonders out Loud!!!!.... The TMR site has a list of Mitsi Dealers on there. Is there a provision for some of the upgrades they have done to be sold as a pack or pieces at a time to upgrade our Tri's. I wouldn't want it all but some parts would go nice. And maybe... Just maybe it would be covered under warranty..

Just a thought..

I was this close to getting some ordered before the $$$ dropped against the $US

Pricing I had from Tailand was $490 with an additional $75 for the headlight surround (included shipping by EMS to Australia) (1 set driver and passenger)
Not 100% sure but I believe the surround does not come colour coded

This was the price on the halogen projector headlights (not the bi-xenon) in Sept 2008
