Capped price Servicing

Postby Foggy on Fri Feb 19, 2010 5:53 pm

Picked up my new GLX-R on Thursday and dealer explained that it came with an extra bonus - Fixed Price Servicing.

Includes parts, labour, oils and fluids.

Triton prices (4x4)

15000 $235
30000 590
45000 590
60000 590

Sounds good to me!!!

Hi all and Foggy, I just joined up a short time ago and I'll be interested in user feedback on these numbers.

The whole capped price servicing thing was pitched at me as a sell point, but I ignored it anyway. Are these prices actually good? I come from a regular sedan style world and $600 for a service I'd give birth to a calf normally... :)

As much as they sound good, they are still Mitsubishi service prices and they are still 25% more than you would pay at somewhere like Ultratune.

I paid $173 for my 15k service and I am about to hit up for my 30k next couple of weeks. I anticipate it to be around 250 mark....A mate of mine recently purchased a new TD Hilux with capped servicing and it isn't that expensive. I will find out the price for you...

Toyota capped servicing is at $170 each 10k up to 80k. After that it refers to normal pricing or he goes back to Ultratune

I didn't get any fixed priced servicing, but I got quoted $390 for 15k service off Mitsubishi, ended up taking it to a regular mechanic and got the Log book service for $220. As there is a few small issues with my car that i want Mits to look at (bad fuel economy, squeaky leafs etc) ,i thought i had better get the 30k service from them. They said $490 for 30k service, what a rip. I asked what if i supply the filters etc? Told me that's fine so long as its Mits genuine. They won't warrant any service they do if i supply them with non genuine parts to use.

i paid about 800 for my 45000 service but my 30000 and 60000 were less then 590 so i think there just making it a flat rate that equals out anyway so there not doing you any favours

Take it to them under a warranty issue and have the licensed regular mechanic perform his genuine service...all you will get out of Mitsubishi is a 'We had a look at the system and its fine, we sprayed your leafs with some lube'..$390...good day :?

I find these responses interesting in their negativity!!

I'm silly enough to have confidence in my dealer - I think he will do OK by me.

I well remember my Holden Jackaroo - three weeks out of warranty the engine blew - $17000 for a new motor. Holden covered the entire bill and warrantied the vehicle for an additional three months. If the vehicle had been serviced at Ultra-Tune would they have stood behind their product??? Could i have expected them to??

I'm happy to pay a bit more for a service.

There's paying a bit more for a service and then there's extortion, Foggy...

My 45k service was in the low $400's including gearbox/transfer & both diff oils changed, at a dealership - it was the most expensive service so far...!!!

Well why did you buy a Mitsubishi then...are you expecting the engine to blow a couple of days out of the expiration date?

I might create my own Mitsubishi service centre....

Racer - I am not expecting my Triton to blow a motor a few days or weeks out of Warranty - but it does happen to some vehicles! My point was that I would not have enjoyed the support I received from any manufacturer had I had the servicing done by a non-dealer!

One of the many reasons I bought the Triton was the great Warranty and I'm happy to pay a few dollars extra to ensure my vehicle is kept in top condition and that my Warranty and other benefits (eg Roadside Service) are maintained.

Seems there is a lot of complaining over a few dollars that may very well be very well spent!!

I had my 07 GLX-R serviced @ 30,000kms & it cost me $360. Just went to book in for a 45,00km service & the quoted price is $850 in Darwin. In all honesty they did say it was a big service, but......

I can see where you are coming from Foggy..but to pay around 400+ per service extra..you will probably be better off investing the money in lottery tickets...

So after your 10yrs or 160K is completed..you go out and buy a brand spanker and sell your current one before the engine blows...

for a 4x4 3.2 45,000km service.

Replace - brake fluid, transmission fluid/oil, transfer case oil, front and rear diff. axle oil, engine oil and filter, air cleaner element.
Audible check of valve clearances, adjust if required.
Quick look at the stuff listed in the service book and report if unserviceable.

2.6 hours + 1.5 hours if they decide to do the valve clearances + oil and parts.

I bought my MN in Feb this year, one of the selling points was the capped price servicing.

I recently took it to my local dealer for the 15000km and was quoted $607, I explained that the car was covered by capped price servicing, I quoted my VIN number and was informed that according to MMA I wasnt covered by capped price servicing.

I didnt buy the car from this dealer they just happened to be closer to me than the dealer that I bought it from, John Hughes in Victoria Park in Perth.

To cut a long story short John Hughes dealership did the service for $256 and told me that any further services would be covered by capped price servicing.

The local dealer phoned me later in the day and said they had reconsidered and would do me a one off deal and do the service for $500, I cant type in here what I told them.

I just paid $220 for a 7500KMs. Intermediary oil change

Had the leafs, greased, had photo's taken of my gear knob, already peeling
Had the ECU checked for codes, all good.

The Service Manager at Rockingham, did listen to my concerns, and I was pleased for that

I just picked up my new MN GLX-R and love it! The dealer took me through the warranty conditions, if you get it serviced by non Mitsu, under Aus law, you get a three year warranty. If you go to Mitsu then you get 5 years warranty plus the ten on drive train. If you're only keeping it for 3 years go non Mitsu, if you care about the 5 years Mitsu it is...let's not start on the effect of mods on the warranty!

He saw you comin Perko....warranty stays as long as it is serviced by a licensed mechanic mate...you just bring it back after the 3 years to show it has been serviced as per schedule mate...then it keeps going...

Had my 15k service today and for curiosity rang the local MMAL for quote and was told $250. While I was on phone I also asked about my 30k service and was told the actual cost was $950 :o but with the capped deal they make the difference and only charge $600  . This is how they make there money I'm sure.

Decided to give a call to my local 4x4 workshop (Hi-tech 4x4) who have done a lot of work on my past weapon and got it done by them for $210 8-) , using genuine parts to keep warranty book happy. They'll definately see a lot more of my truck in there workshop again

Hey HAR051, your toy is very similar to mine and I'm in the Sydney area. My last service with Lander Mitsubishi, Prospect was an intermediate 22500K oil change service (yes should do myself) but the damage on that was $261.00.

I then inquired about these capped price services and the following was sent to me :-

30,000 $590.00
45,000 $590.00
60,000 $590.00

I would like to look into where you have your Triton serviced as the above prices do not include any other cost, and I'm sure they will find something to hit me with!

Cheers
Greg.
