MY 09 Tritons

Postby 4wd26 on Thu Apr 10, 2008 2:11 am

Guys,
Talking to the dealer today has confimed the April Builds will be MY09.

These willl have as standard in the VR and above cruise control as well as 17" rims 8-) (not sure of the tyre size at the moment- but could be good news for thos who want larger diameter tyres?)

There will be a premium of $500 over the price of the outgoing models.

Other news is that Mitsubishi is giving extra discounts $$$ on the 08 builds (Jan to March) to get rid of them in anticipation of the "new model"

Cheers

Wow they sure know how to f!@# our resale!

TBH though that just motivates me to spend more on mine since I know I'll be keeping it now!

If they chucked in the 5-speed auto from the Pajero, I'd be ordering one today as the new family wagon, but I don;t like my chances :(

Jop,
I'm leasing the vehicle so am sparing a couple of dealers against each other for price.

I will end up using a bloke at zupps southport though as he is the one who has done the hard yards (and provided all this info)

The cleveland dealership is a dead loss (as far as knowledge goes). Will see how they treat me when it comes to servicing.

pm me if you want more details (especially pricing/ discount on the run out model- which are going to be pretty hard to find in a 08 build)

Subi,
the 5 speed auto is one thing I have yet to ask about. At the moment the $$$ are still pointing toward me taking the runnout- I already have a pajero with 16" rims.

Depends on what other goodies are in the kit

cleveland tried to tell me a difflock was a waste of money - only good for burnouts - tool. My paj has one and i aint buying a triton without one

I bought my mk from them a few years ago, decent service though.
I have heard southport is excellent

I will be leasing as well, my rego runs out in may so i want to trade before that.

hi all, so the my09 being discussed, will the above discussion points be valid for the GLXR? I know factory cruise is coming in the one I am getting but had not heard about 17" wheels etc. fingers crossed on the 17" wheels as it will allow me to go to 19" rims here in SA legallly

Twin,
From what I understand there was a email sent to all dealers outlining the changes to the upcomming model (designated MY09)

The changes will affect the GLX-r and GLS and therfore by default the VR, as that is how the dealers see the VR (a downgraded GLX-r)

Have to get onto the lease company tommorow so the vehicle can be ordered.

4wd26, I know Southport and Helensvale are pretty much the same, but I highly recommend Billy Jenkinson at Helensvale Zupps, him and the manager Gerrard were fantastic...

Well I put the deposit on the 08 model today, BUT the dealer is having trouble finding one that I wanted (colour, diff lock auto diesel)

SO I may have to order the 09 model, BUT I really wanted 16" rims (as thats whats on the Pajero).

The dealer is seeing what they can do hopefully I'll get the 09 model with 16" rims and cruise control for the runout price 8-)

If not I may have some 17" factory rims for sale (swap) in the near future.

Sorry Buzzy,
the dealer has just got back to me and can source the 16" rims for me AND still do the deal for the runnout price (score: free cruise control!!!!)

Problem with this is I now have to wait on the first shipment which is end of May early June.

OH and for information the 17" rims and tyres are 245/65/17- was hopeing for a tyre placard change to enable wider fitment tyres (as I'm in QLD)

So the 17" rims are confirmed then for the MY09?

I have it on a contract with 17" rims and tyres, so without seeing it in person I can only rely on their advice. BUT being able to quote tyre size would probably confim this.

Weren't some dealers selling them with 20" rims? It might be worth making inquiries if they can supply you with larger tyres and then put the onus on them to have the placard changed at compliance.

Would be a long shot though.

As anyone asked the question why the MY09 GLX-R & GLS are getting 17" rims as standard?

Is it for aesthetics or are they fitting bigger brakes like they did when the NS Pajero came out 2 years ago.

I just sent that dealer an enquiry about this car and it turns out that its Zupps so maybe you could give them a call in the morning and ask how they comply the car with those rims.

This is probably getting a little off topic I might just paste this over in the wheel/tyre thread so if you'd like to respond maybe do so there.

Mate, I'd say that if they were advertising it looking like that they sure as hell better be able to sell it like that otherwise they'd have a case of false advertising.

The guy called me as I was walking into the gym but it was a bad line. Hopefully he'll call back today and I'll see what he says.

We get 17" rims as standard here, with 245/65R17 tyres.
Some 16" rims don't fit over the calipers so unless they're going to change them too......

The tyre size that Mitsi recommend for the 17's are 265/70R17, which are the ones I've got (General Grabber AT2)

Mitsi are now giving us the option of 20" wheels for about £2000GBP

There's guys over here driving around with 22" wheels on their Tritons.......

I run 22" chromed alloys on my Triton and don't they look good. They are my town tyres, still trying to work out what my bush set will be.

Tritons look so undertyred in standard guise, the setup Zip has sounds the go for going bush.

I would be double checking your information in regards to bigger brakes.

As far as has been discussed in the forum there was NO change to the brakes between models (especially as VR tritons come with 16" rims and the GLX-r and above have 17" rims.

Mitsubishi on the website don't mention any difference in the braking department.

I'm sure others have swapped back to 16" rims for offroad use (and its cheaper for tyres)
