Airconditioning Thermo Fan connector

No it is temperature regulated somehow. Doesn't run constantly unless it really needs to.

Should work. The relay was pretty cheap from memory. I'm assuming yours has the plug there ready to go? Some blokes found theirs didn't. I find that on a hot day if I'm stationary it will run full pelt. Once I get moving and there's some natural air flow it can then drop out. If it's not such a hot day then it will cut in and out depending on the overall temperature of some part of the setup, but I'm not sure where it gets the reading from. Certainly seems to give me better cooling from the aircon and it seems to get cold quicker if that makes sense.

Yep, sounds right. Wired same as a condensor fan ;-)

Would also activate on high coolant temp call as well I would believe, so when clutch fan is called then thermo fan called too, thus causing it to run longer while you were stationary.

If you order the fan from Mitsubishi using Lee's part number, does it come with all the required bits, or do you need to scrounge bolts and brackets?

Mine came with the fan and relay. The holes in the fan line up with holes already in the triton. I had to add a couple of metric bolts - I think there were threads already there and all. Can't remember how many or what size. Probably M6 or M8 and about an inch long but it was seriously a 5 minute install and you could work the bolts out beforehand easily enough if you've removed your grill before.

White plug/ passenger headlight/ Red Green Black all with yellow stripe
Maybe on the glx it'll power an optional dash mounted fan :lol:Click to view larger picture

The green/yellow wire goes to where the headlight washer relay would sit in an upmarket/overseas triton, assume that is what its for.

Looks about right mate. It will probably be a copy rather than genuine but no real way to know where Mitsy source theirs anyway so who knows?

Hi Guys,

This whole story sounds like an excellent win for Triton owners. I've now taken my MN GLX-R to Mitsubishi twice in relation to the inefficiency of the A/C and everytime they check it out they come back saying nothing's wrong!! Being a fridgy i knew for certain something was wrong and I was always pointing this to the higher than normal refrigerant pressures, you only had to feel the pipes to work out that a lack of airflow was more or less the cause.

I'm definitely going to look into sourcing the fan and relay now that its a proven solution however i was trying to determine where these are sourced from using those part numbers which were previously listed in the discussions. If someone could point me in the right direction that would be good.

Thanks guys

Lee-thal wrote:i just had a look on a ML TRITON VR 3.2 and there is no connector there as shown in the picture,

SO, anyone that has the connector as shown in post 1 can fit a Thermo fan and relay in and it will operate when the air con compressor clutch is engaged.

FAN number MN123607 New Triton Club Price $253.08 + Tax
Relay p/n MR588567 $19.80 + Tax

PLEASE NOTE, there are only now 3 fans in the country at this time

if you order them it may take a couple of weeks to get them from Japan.

Cheers Lee

...and then insulate the air cond pipes with high temp pipe lagging .... the pipes run past the turbo. I have the thermo fan and have insulated the pipes and my air cond works well .... :)

Has anyone attempted to use a 3rd party fan instead of Mitz factory fan part MN123607, and use the factory relay from Mitz?

I've got a spare 80w 10" fan that fits nicely against the condenser, and would be a truckload cheaper than forking out $250+ for the original fan.

If its been done, how did you best attach the 2 wires from the fan into the factory plug? Flat pins? round pins?

If you were doing that you could cut the plug off altogether and join the wires instead. It didn't seem too unusual a plug though so you might get lucky and find something compatible if you know what to look for.
