Airconditioning Thermo Fan connector

Got to be a design or manufacturing fault. No way would you want to take hot air from the engine bay to 'cool' the condenser. Also it would compromise the effect of the radiator fan.

Reverse the polarity and all should be fine.

Might be a long shot, but check the blade assembly has been correctly mounted, not even sure that they could be reversed, but stranger things have happened.

As mentioned by Variflex, it looks like it's just some blowback.
It felt like air was being extracted from the condenser, until I undid the mounting bolt and placed my hand between the fan and condenser. The amount of air coming back was significantly less than the amount of air being pushed through the condenser.
I agree with Snowman, the fan does actually move a LOT of air!

Thanks to everyone for all the help, sorry about wasting everyone's time. It was a false alarm.

LOL... Yeah, but turns out there is no issue with either of our TDIs (Amarok and Passat)...

Did paper test on the Rok over the weekend, and it definitely pulls air into the engine bay, but it's weird, feels like there is air being pushed forward when you put your hand in front of it...

Hi Guys, after a chat with Garret he said the only difference between the two models he has on offer is that the motors are made in different factories. I asked him what model he would recommend and he suggested to go with the cheaper one because the quality is pretty much the same but for a cheaper price.

2 weeks later it arrived - sans relay :( I took photos and raised a dispute then Garret very promptly apologised and posted one out. Apparently raising a dispute is a very bad look for sellers.

With the 10 percent Newtriton.net discount I'm pretty happy with the result and its a very simple install. I expect it to last maybe two summers before conking out but who knows? Chinese made stuff can be so hit and miss.

Picked up a 10" thermo fan on ebay http://www.ebay.com.au/ulk/itm/161862707621
Cut oem plug and swapped for a few blade terminals. Fan came with blue/black wiring so no getting confused with the oem wiring.
The fan was difficult to try and fix in so I just squeezed it into place and fitted off with a few cable ties. Dodgy yes but it's not going anywhere and the fan has enough clearance as to not touch the fins and it works a treat

how come you didn't use the mounts that came with the kit as they are designed to go trough the core...

Yeah raising a dispute is like calling the cops before talking to them, they don't like it and gives them bad stats. Most sellers will fix any issues via msg, if they don't you can then open a dispute.

Hi All,

I installed one of the AliExpress Fans into my 09 ML GLXR a couple of months ago.
Unfortunately I didn't have the connector so I had a look into fan controllers to mimic the factory setup.

I ended up installing one of these:
https://daviescraig.com.au/switches-controllers
ELECTRONIC THERMAL SWITCH - PART No: 0444 (12 VOLT ONLY)

Got it for around $70 from ebay.

Installed it just above the Fuse Box and tapped into the AC condensor wire outlined earlier in the thread by the fuse box (unit comes with a tapping line for this).
Then ran the temp probe over to the radiator and promptly snapped it in half..

Apart from that it works perfectly and could be an option for those without the factory wiring.
The temp probe is far too long for the Triton radiator hence breaking it so I'll probably source a different shorter one from elsewhere.

Made a huge difference to AC temp when idling.. should have been factory fitted

Thought I better share for anyone else who doesn't want to wire up their own relay config and is missing the factory wiring.

I found a pack of chair leg rubbers and bored out the hole to suit. Chucked a bit of glue in there as well.

They looked a bit like these

Thanks kaybee

Picked up something similar from Bunnings today. Just waiting for the fan now.

You would probably need to upgrade the evaporator and condenser coils as well...

Does the thermofan have a variable speed? When i installed mine (from a wrecked challenger), it was super loud but now it seems to be running alot slower. It spins freely by hand so i dont think its seizing.

any one fitting an aftermarket thermo, you can buy the bottom rubbers for the original mount from mitsi. the ones on bottom of the condenser are the same and they come with a right angle bracket to mount your fan.

Hi Everyone,

Been reading and wanting to this mod.

Now as per NowForThe5th post on page 9, i Can only see the wrong plug. I noticed a few people saying that the right one was taped up? But no pics of how and where it is taped.

Does anyone else have a pic of the plug in its taped up position?

Mine is a 2007 ML v6.

Cheers,

If you have it, it's pretty easy to spot. Seems that the V6, being perfect in all other respects, didn't need it, hence mine having the "wrong plug".

TBH, I don't know. I never bothered to stick a multimeter on that plug to see what it did.
