ute lid locks

Has anyone put electrical locks on their hard ute lid and/or hooked them up to the central locking?

I've been thinking about it. I guess you would have to leave the Key locks there as a backup in case the electric locks failed.

I'll watch with interest.

if most are like mine, you wouldnt actually want it hooked up to the central locking circuit- mine gets sucked open at about 70-80kph if you leave it unlocked

I just had a look at www.lidlok.com.au.
Website doesn't show if they make a model to fit the ML.
Anyone got these locks installed?

I have just installed the ute lid locks from lidlok - see http://www.lidlok.com.au. Excellent addition, they work from a separate remote, which I prefer, so they can be activated separate to the cabin etc. Two remotes are supplied with the kit, one is with keys the other I stuck under the steering column with d/sided tape (supplied). An l.e.d. is mounted in the cab which indicates when the locks are closed or open. I bought the kit direct from the supplier in Melbourne (East Keallor)for $435 (great bloke, very friendly & helpful0 - took me about 3-4 hrs to install, very classy stuff, wellmade, all the gear is supplied -best $ I spent-no more pissy little keys.

On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being bloody hard, how would you rate the install?

I was going to look at my own lock setup but if the works already been done - can't see the point in wasting my time - can do something else!

Naff, easy - about a 3/10- just time, the hardest part is removing plastic kick plates etc without breaking the effing clips and bits.

Het Narloo,
I am having the locks fitted by TJM nex week.
How long do you reckon it should take them to install?
Their electrical fitter seems pretty switched on (pardon the pun).

any idea if this would work with a canopy or is its design only suited to hard lids?

Tritonstu,
Looks to me like the locks are designed to work in the horizontal position.
May be able to be adapted though.
From all reports the LidLok guys are very helpful so it may be worthwhile giving them a call.

Nathan, juding by your packing as we left, never mind about lid locks, you need a canopy!

Yeah or a trailer  No.. I intend on getting a bit better organised next time lol. Lidloks wouldn't have worked on the weekend - the bolt or actuator wouldn't have been able to move through the sleeping bags and everything else crammed in.

All done.
Took TJM about 2 hours.
Really neat job, good quality hardware and they work well.
