OBD reader/scanners

Question for scan gauge 2 users have any of you had any luck with any of the x gauge codes to give you extra functions or readouts for example transmission temp .Looking at US pages they list some Mitsubishi codes with CAN protocol but also ask for people to help them develop or check them . Might be old news but I would love to know if I could get temp for auto trans. They also list cylinder head temp hp torque but alas they maybe different protocol or model specific.

There's actually a thread about it mate. Give me a minute and I'll find it.

I'm trying to find an OBD2 unit that works with my Samsung S4 and the Torque app.

I've tried this one;

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2014-Auto-Ca ... 9097wt_916

but the unit got warm. I ended up with CEL and traction control light on ?? I removed it and after a few starts, CEL gone and all good. Not using it any more.
So i bought and tried this one:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Auto-Car-V1- ... 844wt_1153

but it won't connect to my Torque app.
Which ones are you guys successfully using and if possible, where did you purchase from please >? :?

Pretty sure this is the one I have. Connects to Torque app on my S4.

However... model number looks similar to what you have. No buttons on mine though. Maybe the extra bits on yours are enough to cause a voltage fluctuation.

I bought this one and have had no issues.
I use it with Torque on android and my samsung galaxy note 10.1.
Very distracting on the road.

Just a quick question to the knowledgeable ones :D I just purchased a mini ELM327 and downloaded the Torque Pro app. Got it all working except for the boost gauge. Do I need to set it to zero so it will read positive boost as it is at this stage reading vacuum similar to a petrol motor. Also what would the maximum boost likely to be seen? I have a Chipit ,tune 4 and 3 inch exhaust

You will only see boost when you are driving ie the engine is under load.

Thanks. I realise this but when driving, the gauge set for boost is reading in the negative ie similar to a petrol motor when you back off the throttle and increase the vacuum. The MAF should read a positive pressure under boost and as yet I am not sure what settings in the app I need to change for a positive reading. Do you have to change the altitude/ atmosphere settings first.

I recently got a VGate and all went well with set up and works a treat on the Torque Lite (free) app. But the other day it it did something weird by tripping asc and tc lights after I turned off ute, took a phone call then back on again.

Drove fine but turned off with key, back on again to find above lights gone but replaced with check engine light.

Parked, key off, pulled out scanner, waited 5 mins, key on no probs at all. Next day all good with scanner an data I want.

Can anyone shed some light.

Yeah it's not uncommon. If you search for a fault code with your app it may show a p something or other - 2901 rings a bell. If you search the code it will be to do with voltage on the canbus. Mine used to do it if I left the phone on when I turned the engine off. My theory is that the dongle keeps using power to maintain the Bluetooth connection so that when you go to turn everything back on the sensors see slightly less voltage than normal and produce the fault code. Even if my theory doesn't fit your event perfectly it's almost certainly to do with your dongle. If it keeps happening play around with the torque settings and manually close out of the app when you turn the motor off and don't repair till it's running again. Bumping the dongle or plugging in with the ignition on will produce a similar outcome with the lights etc

Thanks cowboy Dave. Haven't played around with codes at all yet and just happy at the moment that the lights cleared themselves. Not sure if I can even clear codes with the free app. I run the obd on an old phone I use for gps permenantly mounted in ute. May just use on longer drives so I don't keep tripping codes/ lights. Fantastic info at hand though.

That particular code will disappear on it's own once the engine has restarted enough times and not detected the same voltage drop again. I'm a bit surprised yours went away so quickly. Mine usually takes quite a few restarts which can get very tedious.

Also according to these people http://www.appsapk.com/torque-lite-obd2-car/

The free version can clear codes too. Not much point with that code though as it just returns until it is happy that enough time has passed. I've cleared it like a dozen times in a row and every time it just comes back. Handy to know though if you get some codes later.

Hi,

Not sure where to put this, but it is mainly about an OBD reader – Torque Pro. I have ordered an
ELM327 Bluetooth OBD-II Wireless Transceiver Dongle to use with Torque Pro.

When setting up preferences for the Triton in Torque Pro one question was – what is the weight of the vehicle?
On page 9-12 of the owners manual there are 2 columns showing kerb weight of both manuals and autos for 4wd's.
Which one to use for an auto? Without wide fender(mudguard) or with wide fender(mudguard)? Which is the most common?
Maximum gross vehicle mass – w/out wide fender 2900kg, 2920kg, or with wide fender 2930kg.
Which one should be used? I am sure I will have other questions about this as I try to set up the preferences.
Cheers

If you have flares, wide fender. No flares is without.
I'm not so good with the advice  ... Can I interest you in a sarcastic comment???

Ta Fridgie,

I can now enter (w/out wide fender 2900kg, 2920kg) into the preferences and move down the list.

It will run fine without that data anyway. It likely only uses it when calculating stuff like torque power which it would do by some sort of weight/acceleration calculation or something. For the standard stuff most of us watch it's unlikely to be needed.

CD did I read that you have been running 2 OBD2 dongles at the same time. I recently received a Y OBD2 dual cable and have been a bit scared the 2 at the same time

Yeah mate I've been running an ultragauge at the same time as a scangauge. My only tip is that if you're disconnecting the battery it's best to unplug from the obd port first. I'm pretty sure the ultragauge is pulling a little too much power before engine startup and that causes the p1901 code which is a pita.

Hi CD,

Would you mind expanding on your use of the ultragauge and a scangauge. From a novice's view don't the gauges show the same information?
