OBD reader/scanners

Yeah for the most part that's right. The problem with the scangauge is you have to choose 4 items and that's it. Mine is mounted above the mirror and I tend to find if I'm driving it takes a bit too long for poor eyes to refocus and read the data. With the ultragauge you can have up to 8 readouts on the one screen and they are bigger and easier to see. You can also set alarms like coolant temp or whatever so it pops up with a warning for you. I've gone with 6 readouts at the moment and have been using the obd speed readout as it's more accurate than the speedo.

I had the scangauge before the ultragauge really became known and have only recently bought the ultra so I'm still tinkering with it. So far the main downside of the ultragauge is that it's got an aqua/blue kind of readout and everything else on my dash is red so that kind of irritates. Sooner or later I will likely tear it apart and ruin it trying to change that.

I may eventually sell the scangauge or chuck it or something but for now it just sits above the mirror as a backup if I ever need it. It's a bit quicker to clear codes with too so it's handy for that.

I have the scangauge and have been swapping between that and a couple of phone apps. Know what mean about only having the 4 readouts, thats why I was thinking about running both at once. I currently have the economy function on the scangauge accurate to about .5 litre per fill up.

You can always daisy chain a few scangauges together if you want to display more gauges ( an expensive exercise) but I have linked 3 of them together without issue.

Ok guys, have started to use my blu obd2 a bit more and found it picks up the code 1901 that it calls a "Mazda torque lockup converter intermittent" also this cannot be cleared by Torque lite version I have.

Any ideas? No lights on dash or anything out of the ordinary that I can notice. It's on a my15 glxr auto.

Thanks in advance for any input.

P1901 is a canbus voltage irregularity. I've had dozens. Usually caused by your Bluetooth dongle or by plugging or unplugging the dongle while there is still power in the circuit. You can clear it but it will come back continuously until the engine has started enough times without detecting the under voltage. Unpair your phone and just sit there starting the car, turning it off and starting again and it should eventually disappear. Or ignore it for a couple of days for the same outcome.

My tip would be to turn torque off when you turn the engine off and don't let it re-pair until your motor is running again to avoid future codes.

Thanks CD. Love the data from this thing but the tritons seem sensitive to them. Will try your method to clear over a few starts and runs then keep an eye out for codes. No lights on dash. Do any of these codes caused by the BT cause any potential problems for us?

Any things to look out for or definite no no's?

Cheers and thanks.

It's no real biggie getting the codes and driving through them. I find with mine that sometimes I really upset it and then I get the engine light and it takes out the stability control and airbags as well. That's a bit of a safety issue but it doesn't take long to overcome.

Best so far for android phones as far as I know. There's a free version you can experiment with first before committing.

Just an update on this. A great free app that monitors all the main functions from our utes to simply keep a close eye on or trouble shoot if need to. I found you can clear codes with the lite or free version. The 1901 code was caused by me either removing or inserting the blutooth dongle while engine running, has not returned since last post here. I now leave the $10 eBay dongle plugged in full time but make sure I quit app before turning off ute to avoid potential minor codes. Only use app on 30 mins plus trips as I know I will forget to quit app again one day. Don't need to buy the pro version at this stage as I'm not looking for the extra features.

Hope this was of benefit to someone like me who wondered if the process was going to work, it does!

Glad the 1901 tips worked. So you're talking about torque lite above?

Thanks for tips CD. Yep, Torque lite. The little red light stays on the BT dongle which must draw some power while plugged in to obd2 port (the other coloured LEDs only come on when you turn on the app) but touch wood no issues with current draw or flat batt as yet.

HP and torque are calculated values. You have to input the variables to match your vehicle and it calculates them from there based on other readings. So the ECU doesn't actually record a value for either HP or torque for the software to read.

Have you read about the PIDS and how to set it all up properly? I don't pretend to understand it much. It went over my head and I gave up quite quickly.

Have a look at the top of page 6 here:

https://www.palmerperformance.com/download/docs/DashCommand_Troubleshooting_Guide.pdf#page6

It seems they have a new way of doing it. The old method involved kerb weight and stuff like that.

Rev? Comes in a light (ie free) version from memory.

The iphone won't accept just any OBD though. Rev used to work on a wifi dongle. Many bluetooth dongles won't be compatible.

See also Dash command which may have improved since I last used it.
