Flat spot etc when cold

Flat spot etc when cold

Postby tassietriton on Wed Oct 08, 2008 5:15 pm

Hey all,
Had the latest ECU upgrade and manifold clean out today.
Car still has a really bad flat spot under light throttle under no load at just over 2000rpm - but only when cold.
If you gently accelerate beyond 2000rpm, the rpms essentially flatten at about 2200 and then the engine hesitates, splutters and will only rev harder if you really stamp on it and then it bunny hops and makes you look like you've never driven a manual before!
Once at operating temperature the car is fine and, looking back, it has always been much better at operating temerature than when cold.
The problem all but goes away when the DP Chip is put back in but that is ot the point - a new car should run as smoothly when cold as when at operating temperature!!
The reprogram doesn't seem to have made any difference.
I was really hoping that this latest upgrade would fix it but am now wondering whether its something to do with the cold run settings on the ECU.
Anyone had a similar experience, and, more importantly, found a fix?

Mine was doing the same thing - went back numerous times to be fixed under warrenty, but kept reverting back having a 'issue' somewhere.......

Drives ya nuts (did me anyway.....). Sold it - brought a Hilux - end of problem.........

Theres a few playing up, which is a shame, as they are a good ute really.
Tip # 1 - Avoid stress & grief & low resale values with vehicles - do it once - do it right, buy a HILUX!!

Have a search for it you may find some info.

I have a new work hilux and it does it (bloody frustrating) as I drive it more than my truck.
Has a very noisy lifter or something when cold also...... POS  :P

Anyone had the suction control valve replaced?
If so, what problems was it causing and what year was the vehicle?
I have been told that this particular problem was fixed in the later models.

Thanks dadz.
I've done a search of the electrical forum but there were no hits for prior topics.
Anyone in OZ had problems with the suction control valve?

Do search for Suction Control Valve and you'll find the Hotline fix number for it.

Hotline Fix No. ML 13-002 Suction control valve sticking affecting fuel pressure?

There are a number of posts on the subject.
