How to retrofit a Mitsubishi RV meter to an MN

Re: How to retrofit a Mitsubishi RV meter

Why do i feel like an MMCS crash test dummy all of a sudden...

From memory I'd need different connectors on the wires to fit into the MMCS plug. I might have some somewhere. If I find them during dash re-assembly I might wire them into the plug to experiment with later.

I've got the double decker hood like the one in rodeddy's post that I linked to. So the RV meter will get cut down to about half height and sit above the mmcs. I have a uhf in the single din spot.

Here's mine with nothing in the top spot:

Fits the MMCS just fine. Maybe you have a different MMCS?

I hadn't ever seen that hood on ebay.

The size of the bottom opening is actually wider than a standard double din. Non-mmcs owners end up having to fit a spacer to fill in the sides unless they buy a larger headunit.

I can't remember off the top of my head but I think it was around $120?

Just as a little postscript to this I decided to try connecting the CAN high and CAN low wires to the relevant plug on the back of the MMCS. The MMCS handbook shows screens with trip computer functionality so i thought I was in with at least a shot of it working. Anyway it didn't work at all.

My best guess is that the functions simply aren't loaded in the firmware which it seems to load from the maps disc. I am a few editions behind on the maps disc anyway but while ever I am using a triton disc it seems unlikely that this will change.

Ideally I need to find a Mitsubishi vehicle, sold in Australia, that was fitted with this MMCS model (the Kenwood item) and had the trip computer functions enabled. Then I need to get a maps disc that suited that vehicle and see if it works in a triton. Open to suggestions here.

Well v20 is better than v18 which is what I think I'm running. I need to suss out if the discs are different between Pajero, lancer, triton and so on.

not that i know im a member of a gps fourms and the v20 is the same as the toyota it is only the firmware that makes it different
have you tried to login to the service off the mmcs and change the car type?? while the can is connected??

To access the MMCS service menu.

The nav disc must be inserted.
Turn ignition on, press agree.
Press Audio then PWR - should be at the Audio Off screen, no keys displayed.

There are 4 hidden keys on this screen as shown in the attachment.

Press 4 then 2 then 4 then 2 then 4 then 2

Looks like it is mostly diagnostic info - although I wouldn't play around changing any of the values. Be very careful what you do in this menu, don't blame me if you brick your mmcs
and extra menu this one fixed up the sound on the bluetooth to low

Right - its actually 1-3-1-3-1-3-2-4 and it brings up the extra menus I saw in the loading.kwi file.

Yeah I've been into both service menus before, and last night. I have changed vehicle type before without knowing what the codes meant. Stuff like 3e47 is a bit meaningless as a descriptor.

I suppose it wouldn't hurt to try each one and do a reboot each time and see if anything different happens.

I'm pretty sure the discs are different though because whatever my original vehicle type was isn't there as I no longer have the option of telling it my seat fabric is leather.

Will it reboot after a power loss with the Toyota disc in it? On a previous map disc I found it wouldn't reboot unless it had the genuine disc in the drive. Haven't had that problem with the current disc though.

Waiting on the add on bit from China. Still in two minds on whether to go up top or in the single din and move the UHF up. While stuffing around with the CAN wiring to the mmcs I managed to accidentally pull all my little pins off the back of the RVM so I'll be redoing that with longer tails and then gluing it in place or something to protect me from myself in future

You have no idea how pleased I am to see an ambient temperature on that screen. Awesome.

So just confirming, does a MN GLX have the plugs required to just plug and play an RV meter, or is it all through OBD2?
