Limp mode

Limp mode

Postby griz066 on Fri Jan 15, 2016 8:02 pm

Today with the cruise set on 100 going up a slight hill the cruise cuts out the, the engine light, the traction control light and another light just to the right of the traction come on. I loose all power and end up in what I assume is limp mode. No power and only able to do about 15kph. As we were on the way to the coast in convoy I just parked it on the side of the road and when we came back 9 hrs later it started ok the only light that remains on is the engine light. It has full power and drove perfectly home at 100kph. What are your thoughts?
Cheers <*)((((((><

Get the code read with a proper scan tool (one that takes vin no) or a MUT3. Seeing you have an MN, possibly be VGT malfunction if was working hard when occurred.

yes that is the limp mode m8
if happens again just pull over stop car then restart thats it
it will drive like normal after
i had a hard code come up so had to clear it with the stealers
but most of the time it goes away with about a 12 or so normal starts the light will clear it self

up a slight hill for how long??
noemally it is afet about 40 sec it will do it
to stop it dont use crusie and give the throttle a blip every 30 od seconds when going up a hill under boost
Read this First ;) ;)Then still cant find what you are after
Use this Second ;) ;)Then still no Joy Go Here
Look in this thread 8-) 8-)

I'm tipping your engine went into over boost and derated. Did you turn engine and key off, then when engine started again, check engine light stayed on and everything appeared to be fine except cruise control did not work.
Only way to know for sure is to check fault code with scan tool.

CEL will be p1298, generic scan tools wont read it but some can force clear the CEL. The light will eventually go out but the code will remain logged until cleared.
