4x4 green dashboard icon flashing in 2 wheel drive mode

4x4 green dashboard icon flashing in 2 wheel drive mode

Postby Tas-Daz on Fri Feb 19, 2016 2:27 pm

Hi everyone,
Just purchased a 2005 glxr dual cab 4x4 automatic petrol ute. My first 4x4.
Had it about a fortnight and now the green dashboard 4x4 icon flashes every now and then when in 2 wheel drive mode.
Tried shifting to 4x4 mode and back again, but after a while the icon still flashes randomly when in 2 wheel drive.

Any suggestions as to why and how to fix.

The gear selector is definitely in 2 wheel drive.

Does your triton have manual locking hubs or shift on the fly. If they are auto hubs I'd start with the vacuum solenoids.

Shift on the fly
Any links to wiring diagram for a MK so I can see where wires go and where solenoids are located.

viewtopic.php?f=22&t=9026 Found this link in Forum
So will try to find where vacuum and solenoid are
Thanks

As it was the last of the MKs it will be very similar if not the same as the ML. There will probably be hundreds of posts on the ML problems with the vacuum solenoids and front diff actuator shaft. If your MK was not engaged into 4wd regularly by previous owners the actuator could be a bit tight too and a lube could fix it.
Sorry i don't have the links but it should be well documented on the site.
Good luck with the MK they're near bulletproof and the reason Tritons still have a good reputation today.

Sorry mate I should have asked first if 4wd is engaging properly? Have you taken it off road yet?

Yes, took in in 4H for about 10km on a rough washed out dirt track. No rear wheel spin and all see end fine, that is it appears to have engaged 4wd.
Will look at ML links.
She's in for drive light installation at ARB so I'll chat to them as well

Cheers.

i just bought a 2006 exact same car but its a diesel, my light has been doing the same thing, i called the previous owner, and he said for the 10 years his had the car its always done it, but never caused any problems, maybe it could be a faulty switch?

I just got my 2006 ML and was flashing, removed the bash plate and there was a split vacuum hose on the actuator on the diff. Took it off and cut it back, put it back on, no more flashing. Worth a look, only 5 bolts.

4wd light on dash flashing in 2wd

Postby Jas43 on Wed Oct 17, 2018 2:14 am

Hi guys
I have a 2007 glx-r triton 5 speed diesel
I had the timing chain and turbo replaced
Since then the 4wd light on dash flashes while im in 2wd
When i put it in 4wd the light stays on as it should then i put it back in 2wd it should go out but it doesn't it just flashes.
Any information on what it may be or how to fix it would be very appreciative.
Thanks in advance.

Threads merged. A search would have found this thread and the most likely cause, in previous post.
