blowen headlights, parkers ,and no traction control

Postby gav1982 on Tue Sep 04, 2018 7:18 am

2013 triton

The other night i was driving home and blow both my headlights and parkers at the same time .
i still had hi beam but no low or parkers
i still had dash and back lights but no front lights at all

i got NRMA to come out and fix the problem because it was all to dangers to drive at night with no lights at all.
and all he did was put new headlights globes in and that fix the headlight problem

so now i have at lest headlights to drive at night with

and now just today i found out that my traction control is not working as well

light comes on the dash the same but TC does not come on at all

i think it might be going to a auto electrician to try and fix the problem

Sounds like a good move - may save more expensive bits from getting damaged.

Headlight globes are reasonably robust, so would take a significant voltage spike to kill them.

Do you normally drive with headlights on during the day? Low beams may simply have been worn out.

The alternator can really only cause an excessive voltage if the battery became disconnected so wiring fault is a possibility.

yes
i do drive most days with my headlights on all the time
and drive about 1 hour each way for work
just spoke to a auto elec
and he said that it could be caused by the alternator overcharging
i have never heard of this before
does this and can this happen?
i'm just a bit concern that it might have caused more damage to ecu or something

My Vito used to 'eat' headlight globes, usually went within a couple of weeks of each other.

Unusual for two globes to go at the same time.

Parkers can sometimes be dead for ages and not noticed until the headlight goes and attracts attention.

An alternator could overcharge. All starts with the voltage measured by its regulator (inbuilt or ecu).

The reference can be affected by the circuits involved (electronic fault) or poor connections ( bad earth, etc ).

Did the autolec give you any results of voltage checks, etc?

Our i30 diesel blows headlight globes as pairs regularly. It's a know issue for that vehicle due to a crappy loom.
Hope you sort it.

I wonder if Mitsi use wiring loom stretchers like Hyundai do?

Could explain insufficient voltage and premature death of headlight globes.
