Airbag Warning Light

Re: Airbag Warning Light

Postby Joe on Sun Jul 11, 2010 6:28 am

Jumped in the truck yesterday to go out for dinner and the airbag warning light won't go out

I have the squeaking horn pad for a while so I suspect that I have a faulty clock spring. I will get the front end recal done at the same time.

Does anyone know if the airbag is non-functioning with the warning light on, or does it just mean a fault in the system?

Took the truck into Toowong Mitsubishi for ball joint recall and airbag warning light fix today. Told them about the squeak under the horn pad that it is most likely the clock spring.

Phone call 1 hour later "You're correct sir, it is the clock spring and we will replace it under warranty". Love this forum

Also asked the service manager if the warning light on made the airbag non-opperative. The answer is no, it doesn't.

If your airbag light is on the airbag system is inop and wont deploy in the event of an MVA. Its best to get it looked at ASAP b y your local dealer. If its an ML it will more than likely be the clock spring. There was a tech bulletin or hotline fix brought out relating to the clock springs breaking something to do with clearances.

I have replaced numerous clock springs.

Hope this helps

Don't leave it too long as none of your safety systems will work while that light is on! (Mine is still off)

I have had my MN in the workshop 5 times.
First say said it was dirty connectors (twice), then they replaced the the left hand side airbag, then they said the connectors in the main computer had to be spread (mitsibishi fix) came on again 5 minutes after I left the the dealer.
Now been in the workshop for two days they replaced the wiring harness, then they said the Right hand airbag needs replacement. Obviously that did not fix it.

Still waiting

Took the 2010 mn back to garage yesterday for airbag light issue. Advised him there was also a rattle from the drivers side airbag. He said factory have issued an update that connections need to have sort of gel on them to prevent corrosion and also the firing device need changing in side bag and drivers seatbelt pretensioner. Light not on today so hopefully fixed.

Dealer said they had a lot of mn's with the same issue but are resolving with current fix. Will wait and see.

..........and oddly it was back on by 10am Saturday. So back to the dealer. Yesterday I seemed to get a clunking sound coming from the offside front when the auto box was changing down . something new.

Good news. Mitsubishi is going to cover the Clock Spring out of warranty and my dealer is going to cover labour for fitting :D I now have $400 to spend on something else [/quote]
My clock spring was also replaced 4 weeks out oh warranty. A few days ago it came on again . I also noticed my reverse lights were out. I replaced the fuse and my air bag light isn't on anymore.

I was installing a dual battery yesterday and today the airbag light came on. I'm hoping it's the obvious that I pulled something out or blew a fuse rather than a clock spring...

Where would I find the airbag fuse? And where's the module to check the connection?

Mine does this when i disconnect the battery. If i turn it on and off 3 times it clears itself.

Also remove any guages/cables from the OBD2 port.

OBD2? Apologies for my ignorance of abbreviations?

Hmm, had the battery disconnected, so might see if it clears itself today.
