Anyone installed something similar to this so they can select between cameras.

Why not wire in both cameras in parallel and switch the power source?

I know plenty of guys who have done that, and it works perfectly

my apologies again for not putting up diagram

had training for most of the day & then some jobs around the house. Was just sitting down to PC to get a few things done including the circuit diagram & pager went off for a shed fire.

Unfortunately it was a long job & I am not going to get the post up tonight. I will attempt to do it tomorrow night.

There have been a few good posts/links recently that should point you in right direction as well.

I could not find the original so tried to remember what I did. (may not be 100% accurate)

this is the best I could come up with & may not suit your system, depending on how the mirror works. from memory mine has a sensing circuit which turns power on to the mirror when the camera powers on.

The switch is a single throw double pole changeover (SPDT)

hope this helps as it's a bit rough

Got it sorted today with diodes. Works great.

Nope. Just used 2 in line diodes. One in the original reverse tap wire and one in between that wire and the new override switch.
1st one stops power going back to the lights and second one stops it going back to the switch when in reverse.
I soldered the diodes onto male bullet terminals which made it dead easy.

Hi All

Installed a Gator 4.3" Wireless Rear View Mirror + Camera System from Supacheap Auto.

So far not happy with it.

Issues I have are-

Mirror is to dark, like it has a very dark tint over it.
Wired in the wireless mode. A lot of times it is snowy, like a bad TV reception and at times cuts out.
When the camera is on. it is not bright enough and/or there is too much glare/light to be able to see the screen.

I installed it myself and I am considering removing it and asking for a refund.

Thoughts anyone?

Thanks

GrantWC,

Did exactly that with my father in law's Colorado. Bought the wireless kit hoping to safe myself some time. Worked ok initially with a little interference at my house, but driving around it would flicker like nobody's business. I even went so far as to run separate power all the way to the transmitter, and moved the the transmitter so that it was direct line of sight to the monitor shooting through the rear window. Still rubbish.

For my money, wired camera all the way. I still need to sort him out with a new wired version, and once I'm happy with that will be doing the same in my Triton.

Not all wireless is created equal. I recently bought a jaycar wireless that was actually rechargeable. Stuck the camera inside the horse float and the screen on the dash. It was crystal clear for hours, until the battery went flat anyway. So it's possible, but not all brands will do it well I suppose.

I bought the same Gator camera from Soupycheep but I hard wired it all the way. Don't forget you don't hook up the earth wire on the camera in this install as it can blur the camera/or cause lines across the screen. Apart from the screen being a tad small mine has a good clear picture considering the cost. The one in my new Jeep Grand Cherokee is next best thing to useless. Still chasing jeep over the quality. Probably my fault for buy a Jeep :D

If u don't connect the earth negative wire how does the camera get it's power?

Hope it is as easy as disconnecting the negative power to the camera to improve it

I presume that the camera mount provides the earth. In the instructions they say don't connect the earth as it causes interference. I realise instructions are only one persons opinion but every now and then I read them!!!

Gave up on the Gator wireless reversing camera. Back to Supacheap with it.

Maybe I was expecting to much.

What I didn't like

Mirror tint too dark. Made viewing the screen hard to see.
Reception was snowy like an old TV.
Impossible to see the screen if there was too much glare or it was a bright day.
No way of adjusting screen brightness etc
Lastly it stopped working.

May wait and look at some thing like the Polisa system with GPS etc

G day all

Recently purchased a Navman MyEscape 2 GPS with a camera. Just got to wire it in now.

The screen is 5 inches, so should give a good view when reversing.

Got two options for wiring it. First if I wire it through the reverse light, the camera automatically comes on or wire it through a power supply and manually turn it on. The main reason I can think of wanting to be able to turn it on, would be to check on the camper trailer when driving.

Any thoughts on the two options?

Not sure on your set up but most cameras I have seen have a power wire and a trigger wire.

I.E. power by AUX and then trigger by reverse or indicators...

I have mine so it works both ways, Reverse activated & an override switch. I use the switch quite often when towing.

That's exactly what I want to do. Can you explain how and where you wire in the override switch?

Can anybody tell me the best place to bring the video cable into the cab. The only entry point I can find is on passenger side firewall. I did see a you tube clip that drilled a hole through the rear of the cab. I boughht the wireless one from supercheap and it was no good. Aparantly wireless is not too good on utes and is designed mostly for a wagon.

Mate, theres a grommit rear passenger side behind the back seat. Remove the plastic trim in the corner and you'll see it. There's another one under the passenger seat. Look under the car and you'll see it. This one may be easier for you to get to.
Cheers
