Which Dual Battery Isolator And Why

Postby Eelesy on Sat May 10, 2008 3:31 pm

Ive bought the second battery, i just wanna know what the big differences are between the $400 Piranha units and the cheaper units, ie redarc, Projecta...being around $150-$200

they all serve the same purpose right? so why buy the more expensive one?

cheers for info :-)

I just bought a Piranha as well. Another brand from the US was not delivered and got tired of waiting.
Both are regarded very well. I was however impressed with the Piranha package and the apparent easy of install (not done yet).

What henk said!. I installed mine and it's near idiot proof. Does everything automatically. Had a solinoid unit in my MK which worked OK. Old boy had the marine switch in his old Pajero, which was ok until you forgot to switch over to both batteries while driving then you find that your second battery has gone flat from running your excessories while not being charged. Dont think you would have to many probs with the redarc or projecta units. Would be interseted as well to here from someone that has these units.

What battery tray did you use Fireball? Is there any in cab monitor that comes with it and what did the system cost?
I'd rather have a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal labotomy!

It ain't pretty being easy!!

I got my Battery Tray from TJM, the second battery fits a 10" battery and I have a 80AH deepcycle fitted.

http://www.tjm.com.au/Default.aspx?tabid=75

I chose the the DBS system, which has a underbonnet controller, in hindsight I should have gotten the IBS system which has an in cab monitor and control system.

According to the stealer it cost $800 for the parts, fitting and wiring.

As for why buy a more expensive controller.... Possibly the more expensive one has more "features", and possibly it isn't actually better, I can't help you there at all.

did all of mine for $70,

Connected 2 batteries through a constant duty solenoid, and connected it to the idnition with mercury swith so no back feed.

Solenoid isolates 2 batteries when vehicle off so only runs off rear battery. The alternator in triton already equiped so that when front battery charged it switches to rear battery and charges it.

Also put in switch that if front battery dies, bridges solenoid and then can start vehicle.

if wanted no need for fancy systems
