AUX Audio

Postby smeghead on Fri May 16, 2008 11:29 pm

Hi There,

I have just installed the auxilliary cable according to subi_man's article. Works a treat! Only thing is: when the ingition is turned off for some time, the head unit always starts up in radio mode. Has anyone else found this? Is there a way to prevent this? All other modes revert back except auxilliary...

Any help would be great.

Thanks
Sean

Indeed, I am a Red Dwarf fan from way back...
I am using the AUX audio as part of my carputer project... I will hopefully post some pics when I am done...

Well, I have moved the stock trip computer down to where the ashtray and cigi lighter is (or should I say was) and I have fitted a 7" touch screen into the space where the stock trip computer was... I am running an old Dell SX270 under the drivers seat.... I am still waiting on my Carnetix dc-dc power regulator... then I will be up and running... hopefully...

I will update my profile with pics very soon...

The computer will play MP3's and video as well as GPS, rearview camera and maybe internet... the audio from the computer will run through the auxilliary audio on the stock head unit (see subi_man's article). Radio will still play through the stock head unit like normal...

Sounds cool mate just had a look and those pcs seem reasonably priced too. Are you just going to run an extension of the audio jack down the the pc hey?

Yep, exactly... straight into the speaker out of the pc.

Yeah, they are really cheap, I picked mine up of DOLA.com.au for a 100 bucks. They are great because they have an external power supply which means that the input on the pc is 12v... perfect for the car.

Cool thanks.

You should have a read of this btw.

It still sounds like a good option for $100 but I might see what the equivalent laptop would cost as that would have a sturdier hdd too.

Yeah I did read that actually... but I figured for $100 can't really go wrong... The SX270 has a laptop hdd drive in it which was part of the attraction...
